Anna Maria Island

Your first grounding always sucks :) I've done it. Like you I was going slow enough to not get totally stuck but it did kill the engine and scraped up the skeg good so I sanded and repainted. Just a suggestion though you probably sucked up some sand and sand and impellers don't mix I wouldn't say you have to replace it immediatly but it should be on your list of things to do sooner then later. Rather replace it before it goes bad then be on the water and have it fail and be stuck.

I grew up on Anna Maria Island, and then my parents moved to Lancaster, Pa. in 1989

I go down almost every year to visit family and friends. It's odd to show my 10yr. old daughter our old house on the beach and she say, "DAD WHY DID GRANDMA MOVE TO PA".

Anyway....if you take out a boat run out to the 2nd and 3rd Island on the Southwest Side of the Skyway Bridge. Around 200yds. off the islands will be grass then sand bars. That time of the year they are filled with Sand Dollars (Live) in about 3ft. of water. This is a fun time to dig them up and dry them out. Good fishing too !

Also don't forget to eat at Fast Eddies Pier....Great food and good beer. You can watch everyone snag each others line while fishing....this can be real funny stuff . If you've been there before you know what I'm talking about!

I'll be down in Mid August.....should buy a house with all the great deals now. :wow:

Morpheus- I may have to leave that up to the next owner! I talked to the guys at SR Cincinnati on Friday, and may step up to a used 220 sundeck, or possibly a new 240. I keep talking myself into and out of taking the plunge. The time to buy is now, but the fear of where the economy is going scares me. How does your 240 do in the bay? Any arguments for or against your year versus a 2008/9?

Guys,

Thanks for all your help.

We did book a place with a boat lift in the Holmes Beach Area in Key Royale. What would be the closest and best ramp to launch from?

We will be there the week of June 21, can't be here soon enough.

Thanks

Have a great trip! The house on Key Royale sounds great. We've been checking those out for years.

We'll actually be down there at the same time and the following week as well. We're not bringing our boat, but plan on renting one for the day. I'll be stuck paddling our kayaks around which we're bringing with us.

Mike

We will be down again starting this Sunday, June 28th to July 11th. I may try to make it down to the races, I'll keep an eye out for everyone!

It is a beautiful area to boat and eat : )...our only complaint is no dog friendly beaches with the exception of Desoto Park and the causeway at Manatee Avenue (Bradenton). We have a dog that loves the water as much as we do, so we found this fact rather disappointing. Just thought those traveling with a dog would want to know this info before making plans.
