I am restoring my boat that I picked up last year its a 1987 Sea Ray cuddy cabin 230
Engines
350 Chevy Mercury out drive
I am restoring an 1987 23ft cuddy cabin Sea Ray. I am looking for ideas for an anchor pulpit or a good outlet that has a wide selection. Can anyone help me out or give me any ideas on what some of you might have. Also looking into an electric winch that would handle my anchor rope. On the front of my bow right now I have an anchor storage compartment with a hinge on it. I would use this area for my pulpit. Pictures would be great. Thanks

I replaced the original pulpit and locker door with a new teak pulpit.

Just finished installing a Lewmar ProFish 700 freefall windlass with 300 feet of 8 plait line, 20 feet of chain and a 25 lb. Manson anchor. I chose to remove the old pulpit and anchor locker hatch replacing it with a single piece. The new teak pulpit was made by Ship Shop Marine Carpentry in Fort Pierce Florida (772-215-9925). They did an excellent job for about half the price I found anywhere else in the country. I finished it with 5 coats of Epifanes Wood Finish Gloss. To securely attach and spread the windlass load; I used (3) bolts through the deck and (2) angles across the hatch opening. The angles "clamp" the aft end to the deck using the threaded rods from the windlass. I also wired the windlass with a reversing breaker so I can add controls on the deck at a later date.

I used plasteak
looks like teak with a lifetime of no refinishing!

I like that!! Looks really good, thinking of maybe copying your plan, thanks for pics and other exact mods would be appreciated

I am embarking down the windlass road now. I love the way Kc's turn out. However on my 1984 270 dancer I am struggling with the anchor locker drop. So, Kc I have to questions:

1. Did you have to modify the anchor locker at all? (our drop is a small 8" - 10")
2. With the new pulpit and windlass setup bolted down and all, how do you access the anchor locker?

Thanks Mike

Mike,

1. I'm guessing it is the same as our 85 270 - no modification, the drop is working good so far. I think using the 8 plait line really helps with the short drop, it coils like a wet noodle. Not much more than the 300 feet of line and 20 feet of 1/4 inch anchor chain would fit though.

2. I kept my anchor locker access the same. Inside the cabin door ( on the locker side ) I put a piece of 1/8" plastic sign material slightly wider than the opening and resting down at the bottom. It hangs from tie straps at the top of the interior opening in case I need to gain access should the line or chain bind. It is semi flexible and was sized to fit in the opening across the corners (diagonally) in case I need to pull it out completely. This keeps any water in the locker along with the line and chain from coiling out of the access door. I cut a triangular piece of interlocking floor drain tile for the bottom of the locker so the line will completely dry/drain.

Nothing fancy and it all works great. - I hope this helps.

AKBASSKING, Check this out:

I did look into them for a quote when I was in the beginning stages of my work. They do seem to do a great job and were very helpful over the phone but the price was way out of my ballpark. Lots of pictures for ideas on their site though.

Hmmm, I am not quite following. My guess is you have access if needed but nothing is hinged. I would like to continue to have hinged access as I store some things in the locker...mainly portable propane for safety issues. So, I although I absolutely love that pulpit I am thinking I can mount windlass to the current anchor locker. Knowing I may need to reinforce it on the under side for added strength.

Its great to know the drop worked out. I have 150' 5/8 and 30' chain so I should be ok. Mine is nylon 3 stand but if I run into problems I will remember the rope suggestion.

Thanks
Mike

Same here.....

Greg,
Yes, access only if needed. The only thing hinged is the original interior door.

Best of luck with your install.
