Airlines SUCK

Check out flyertalk.com. A board just like this one only a million stories about getting screwed by the airlines.

My nightmare is being in the window seat on a small regional plane, only to have the vacant seat next to me filled last minute by a dude uttering the awful words "May I get a seatbelt extension please?" as he lifts the center armrest up... it happens more than you'd think...

Whenever I'm on any airplane, the armrest goes down and then my arm stays on top of it. If somebody is already in the seat, the armrest still goes down irrespective if their fat azz is in the way or not.

Gary,
I feel your pain. In 2002 me and family members were flying to Disney on Dec. 26th @ 7:30 am. Although we paid a premium a year in advance for a non-stop flight we were informed that they discontinued that service about 2 months before our flight. We were now going to connect in Atlanta. Of course when we asked for a refund of the additional premium paid they said no!! It's not their fault. Well our flight is delayed because the flight crew is late arriving (Too much yuletide eggnog?). We miss the connecting flight thanx to this. We can't all get on the same new flight thanx to the chaos in Atlanta. We end up renting cars and driving to Disney but, we now have lost all of the rooms in a row we reserved a year ago because we did not arrive by 6pm. This even though we were in contact with the Carribean Beach resort at Disney through out the day!! Ok, So now the return flight. We catch a little wake turbulence out of Orlando (Almost sh!t my pants!) but arrive ontime to Atlanta. We sit at our connecting gate for hours watching flight after flight leave as our connecting plane was late out of Talahasse. Well wouldnt you know, it starts snowing. Atlanta shuts down and no flights leave. And even though my bro in-law was smart and reserved hotel rooms, no one drives down there if they see a snow flake so we all get stuck sleeping in the terminal. I even got to meet a murderer who was nice enough to inform me that he just got out of jail for manslaughter for killing his best friend when he caught him with his wife!!! You can't make this crap up!! Since then I have not and never will fly that Crapline again!! I still hope they go out of business!! Todd

, the worst flight I’ve had was from Salt Lake City to Phoenix on one of those tiny jets, I’m sick as a dog with a sinus infection, my head is pounding but I figure at least no one is sitting next to me... Wrong at the last minute I see this young girl enter the plane carrying her own seat belt extension, it was like everything went into slow motion...You got it, she sits next to me, I put the armrest down but she is so big that her side rolls over the armrest into my seat. Now I’m trapped against the window and she would not stop talking.

Shouldn't she have paid for 2 seats?? I thought that was the rule now. If so she should have been given two away from you!!! Todd

This happened 9 years ago, just started a new business and was trying to save money on a flight to Phoenix. Bos to UT, UT to AZ, after this it was non stop if possible.

What amazes me is how good the Asian airlines are. Cathay Pacific, Singapore Air, Malaysia Air, Thai, JAL, etc. They are always on time, the service is excellent, etc. Not sure what the difference is. But when they say boarding is at x and the flight departs at y, you better believe it, because they are usually 5-10 minutes ahead of their schedules.

That said, if you are ever on a regional Southern China flight at mealtime, you might wish that you were still stuck on the ground!

If Southwest doesn't go there, I don't fly there. It may be a cattle call, but it is an efficient well organized one.

Of course we have lost all other direct service for the most part in St. Louis. So I don't really have a choice, but I love Southwest anyway.

I agree!! Southwest flies out of our local airport in Islip. So far they have not done me wrong!! Todd

We fly to San Francisco several times a year from Grand Rapids. While Northwest provided better service (friendlier crews), Delta has been fine. The airplanes are newer and they have always gotten us there on time. We fly first class, so even with a minor delay, it's no big deal as they serve you snacks and drinks and the seats are comfortable.

I agree that Southwest is very basic but I fly it often and have very few issues. Jet Blue always delays me, sends me to the wrong airport, etc. I will not fly them again. They gave me $250 or more in vouchers and I told them to keep it...not worth the aggrivation! My wife flys Virgin American sometimes and seems to like it.

I think the reason is that these guys still compete on the basis of quality of service versus who has the cheapest fare. It is interesting to note that Cathay is fabulous, but their Dragon Air subsidiary is down right scary.

I've also found Southwest to be the best of the domestic carriers. My wife put it the best when she made the observation that the planes and schedules weren't any better on SW, but at least the employees weren't mean to the customers.

I liked Southwest until they stopped the direct flight from RDU to Steamboat Springs...

By far the best airline I ever flew on was XpressJet, but they're gone now.

Anyone else ever been on a flight that bounced upon landing? I flew into SLC a few years ago, at the last second the plane dropped and hit the runway hard. I could be wrong but I swear it bounced back up 50ft. People were screaming, overhead bins opened and dumped out crap.

In May of '96, I was a senior in high school. A few friends and myself loaded up the blazer and headed to Miami to party for a few days, as we were leaving to head home the tranny gave out in Lauderdale. A couple of us decided to rent a car and drive while a few decided to get high and pressurized. After getting a compact car in lauderdale and hauling ass towards Miami Int. to make the flight, we got pulled over doing 95 in a 55 on I95. The few of us that were to fly missed the flight, Valuejet flight 592. I was the one who got the speeding ticket, it was the only one I have ever had that I was happy to have gotten.

I flew through Grand Rapids in May and it was a nightmare. I usually don't fly commercial so I don't know if my experience is normal. The Delta folks there were confused lazy stupid rude ignorant and lacked common sense. This resulted in lines with 150 people standing there watching the time tick away and their planes departing.

When I boarded (with about 5 minutes to spare) the stewardess said to me, boy I wonder where everyone is? I said they are at the counter in line and have been for 1 and 1/2 hours. She rolled her eyes and said, what's new.

I take it that this must happen on a regular basis.

Has anyone flown Korean Air? Best flight I've ever been on. Flew over business class which was better than many first class America's based flights. 13 hours and the food and stewardess were great. Wine not bad too. We couldn't get business on the flight home so in the back we go. My collogue flying with me was 6'4". No problem the seats were great and the food was the same as business just not served on china.

I don't know how the stewardess do it but they were as fresh when the got off the plane as they were when they boarded 13 hours prior. Great service someone was always there to serve what ever you needed. Video games, TV, were available in all classes.:thumbsup:

My son and I flew Korean Airlines from Washington DC to Seoul and I agree that they are great. Seemingly unlimited food and drink, and friendly, helpful flight attendants. The 16 hour flight really seemed a lot shorter than I would have imagined.

ValueJet 592?
Holy S--t!! I don't think I could ever get on another aiplane after that. I'm glad you missed your flight. Brian

WOW!!! I remember that crash. An NFL player also died in that crash and I remember thinking " Couldn't he afford a better airline?" I am glad you missed that flight to dude. Talk about fate, huh? Todd
