No friends with a lear jet... but I have a friend with one of these:

Every time a piece of an engine falls off a Jet Blue flight i'm on, I get a $100 credit without even asking.

A couple of weeks ago flying back to Boston on Jet Blue from NY, The plane was late arriving, then what seemed like 45 minute of taxing the pilot says, an engine stalled and after restarting, the AC compressor died and we had to return to the terminal. They only had 1 plane available but he wasn’t cert to fly it so we had to wait for a crew coming in on an international flight. A 40 minute flight took 6 hrs. We had the same problem flying out, mechanical problems and had to wait for another plane.

Did you get your $100 credit?

If that engine sh*t to bed your a$$ is dead or hurting really bad. :wow:.

Just like in a boat TWIN engines are nice to have.

No, but they gave us all the trail mix, peanuts and water we wanted for free, it wouldn’t have been so bad if the airport bars were open at 4:00am.Airports suck, especially at that time of night

I will bet you will not get a refund from Delta.

For USAir. . depending on how you handled it. . you *might* get a refund. If you just left the airport "mad" without getting a positive response from USAir . . . I would say you would not be getting a refund.

US based airlines are the worst (except maybe for Aeroflot)

Just to add a bit to the fray.
My .....lovely ex.... is a 32 year veteran flight attendant for Delta.
I am saying this even though we do not get along very well.

Times are different.
Since 9/11
Her comment is.... This job is no fun any more.

I do not make excuses for Delta or any other airline.

I just know what she has to go through to work her job.

Corporate America has sucked the living sh!t out of everyday airline workers.

I could go on and on about what it took for her to get
to Atlanta from ORD today to fly all night to Calif and back and do it again the following day.

40 per cent pay cuts and no light at the end of the tunnel.
Merger with Northwest, Union vs Non-Union, sh!t etc.

Most of the 'in-flight' personnel are pretty good.

She takes her job very seriously, but times have changed.
Simple fact of life.
We don't see the company-buyer/customer relationships any more.

Just my $0.02 worth

I just know my ex is going through the same hell as a lot of are in everyday life.

Scott F, feel free to chime in!!!

Dan

What industry hasn't had the life sucked out of it? times are different, we work harder for less. It doesn't matter if it's a corporate job or your own business. You make due with what you have, then go home and beat your dog. Taking the "screw everyone because it ain't what it used to be" approach isn't helping them feel better or get paid better. If they think they are getting back at the man by doing a crappy job, then they are going to lose.

When I was in sales, I use to fly over 100,000 miles/year. It was right after some nugatory gate agent actually said "FU" to me, that I started flying lessons. I was planning on renting initially then purchasing later. But my wife screwed up my plans with her "boat or airplane, you can't have both" thing. Women! Then corporate HR said that employees are prohibited from flying themselves on company business. bastards

My wife gave me the "plane or boat" talk... I've never had "formal" flying lessons... but I've probably logged over 100 hours in cross country flights in Cessna 172's as my room mates in college slept from hang overs.... (they were in Air Force ROTC).

I really like the Cirrus sr22 planes... they are cheaper than a 480 DB....

Anyone want to buy a boat?

If you are going to look at the SR22, you might as well look at the Cessna Corvalis and Corvalis TT. Heck, for less money than the 480DB you can get into a completely rebuilt twin engine Skymaster Rocket II that'll cruise at 200 kts in pressurized comfort.

Regarding the plane or boat talk, I've taken my wife on some of these trips so she can enjoy the pleasure first hand. Unfortunately, she missed the flghts where the ground and air crew were minions of Lucifer. She caught one that was borderline bad. Susie obviously needs more expose to the joys of commercial aviation.

Yeah. . .flying today is really, really bad.

This whole "paying for luggage" really chaps my behind. At least some airlines stopped charging for sodas. I guess they were getting tired of "SouthWest has better service".

I tend to always factor a "I might not make today" into my meeting plans along with a general rule to teleconference if travel time exceeds meeting time. Of course. . that is much easier in a corperate environment where I can simply expense an extra $2K in travel expenses if the need arises. I have done that a few times.

I fly well about 150k miles per year. (It's a LOT IMO)

Because I fly out of Detroit, Delta is my airline... Being Diamond really, really helps. Delta is built for the frequent flier, everyone else is literally treated as baggage... I get my butt royally kissed, but I can't believe how they treat people that don't fly for a living.

I also agree that Delta is the least "frilly" of the full service airlines, but because of upgrades I don't mind. A couple of weeks ago, I asked to fly standby on an earlier flight, they confirmed at the kiosk (for free) and then sent me an email with an extra 1,000 miles because they had to give me the bulkhead seat, instead of first class...
and it was my choice to switch flights!

150k isn't just a lot in your opinion... It puts you in the top tier on any airline. That is a TON of flying...

I did over 1M miles on United back when I was gainfully employed... They still treated me like sh!t... Nothing like Delta though... they give "treating you like sh!t" a whole new level... and I try them about once a year just to get burned every time.

I did call Delta customer service on my drive to Newport News... after yelling at the phone trying to get through the broken voice automation crap, I got "Angela" who had a very strong Indian accent and could hardly speak any English... Funny... India seem to be giving all their kids "American" names....

They usually take American names only for use in their call center jobs.

For you Gary.....

20 years ago Delta used to be an excellent airline with great customer services. Now it engages in customer disservice. Fortunately, unless I have to go to Bismark, ND (old Northwest now new Delta), I can completely avoid them which is easy flying out of Chicago.

I had a bad experience with a happy ending on American last week coming back from Indianapolis Friday. Got to airport 90 minutes before the flight and 20 before the flight was to leave they cancelled due to weather in Chicago and rebooked me on a flight back Saturday morning. They proceeded to call me directly by computer to confirm the new flight but gave me the option to decline the new reservation which I did. This triggered a real human being that spoke perfect English asking me what to do if I would not accept the new reservation for my non-refundable ticket. I said give me my money back for the return and much to my amazement he said fine, but he would have to contact the refund desk. 15 minutes later he said I would be getting a refund over $400 credited back to my Amex. I proceeded to rent a car one way back to O'hare for $200 and got back to my house by 9:00 pm. Just checked my Amex on line today and I received a $453 refund already. I have Gold status which I am sure helped but maybe at least American is take some direction from Southwest who they compete with in a number of Midwest cities.

I guess put another way, American sucks less than most other airlines!

I think I got hooped by the same weather last Tuesday at O'Hare. Sat on the tarmac for 2.5hrs (yay for first class and the gin and tonics flowing) which caused me to miss my connection in CLT, and at 11PM it was the last one to jax. Even though I purchased the ticket through united, I was on a US Airways flight and Im platinum with them, so by the time I landed in CLT I had a voicemail saying I was already rebooked onto the 11:45AM flight the next morning first class. I had to pick up the hotel in CLT for the night (weather is out of their control, and I agree), but it sucks that the ONLY way you get treated as a human is if you spend a lot and fly an airline every week.
