I would like to get a 12 volt inflator/deflator for my towable. I have looked online at the offerings but can't decide. I don't really want to spend more than $50 and I don't like the idea of clipping the unit directly to the battery, I would rather use the 12 volt socket (cigarette lighter) near the throttle on my 175. What are you folks using? Any recomendations or units to stay away from?

Thanks all
Gary

Bass Pro Shops or stores like this sell a nice 12V cigarette style pump for around $25. I use one, it takes a little longer to pump up my "Bertha" but it gets the job done...

I have a little 12 volt inverter that I plug into the boat and then my pump into that. That way I can use it at the house and then just throw it in the boat for the towables on the weekend.

I ran into the same problem as to how to pump up inflatables at the dock so I bought a battery unit at west marine that you charge up with 12v adaptor and works very well. you unplug it from 12v and carry it where you need it doesn't need to be pluged in to use it. It will cost you $50 but it is the best out there. As we were getting ready to use it the first time my dock neighbor said I use my shop vac. which we have a small shop vac in our boat and put the hose on the exhaust side of the vac (110 v though) pumps them up in min. I went to sears and bought a small attachment kit for it and we are using this. I took the west marine unit back and saved my $50. The attachments cost about $12.

I use a Coleman air pump. Got it at walmart for around $15. Plugs into the 12v socket, it even has an adapter for Boston valves.

Mine was pretty cheap......less than $30 bucks and it is nine years old and has been used probably over 100 times. It plugs into the 12V receptacle.

Air Head makes a 12V pump that works great, for around $20. It comes with a Cig Lighter attachment and a battery connect (never used this one). it also has three nozzles to fit all types of inflatables, even the boston valve.

We carry a DeWalt 18V cordless shop vacuum onboard. Kind of discovered by accident how good it was at inflating towables, allowing us to carry them deflated and out of the way. It definitely doesn't match your price requirement, but I like it as an onboard vacuum as well.
