Air Horns

the problem is I can't send it anywhere.....comcast won't let me....I'll have to bring the pics to my office and play.....

gotcha. good luck. i have a laws, rules, and ethics course online tonight to renew my engineering license anyways. that will be infinitely more fun than boating stuff, i'm sure. :smt015

Dominc-

Frank H. was close on the compressor location. Remove the back panel of the starboard locker in the forward stateroom. It's conveniently located behind the panel. Of course, removing the back panel in that locker requires you to remove the two shelves above the drawers, the wood shelf supports, the clothes rod and support brackets, and as I recall, the left hand panel as well.

Are you just curious, or do you have a horn problem you're diagnosing? If your just curious, I wouldn't suggest all the hassle.

And Frank W. - it would be logical to secure the compressor to the top or back wall of the anchor locker, wouldn't it???

Jeff

Inside the anchor locker is not a good choice due to high moisture levels. Putting the location in English in my previous post left something to be desired.......there is a space on the 450 above the anchor locker but under the deck cap for the horn and compressor and that keep the compressor noise out of the cabin and away from a dripping anchor line.

Thanks Jeff...I was just curious where the compressor was...

The air horns on the 410DA and others I guess, are located inside the same as the other horns....If I can resize this picture today, I'll post...easier than trying to explain....

As for the NJ Secret Spot.....It might be divulged at the BIH get-together in July....Might I say....

Dominic,
The horns are actually inside the anchor locker mounted on the port side. Easily accessible if you are small and agile. Not so easy if you are bigger and clumsy (like me) :smut. I had one horn stop blowing and had to crawl in the locker and spray WD40 in the horn trumpet. Fixed the problem. I am very glad that no one had a camera going to photograph me as I tried to wiggle out of the locker :smt013 . Not a pretty sight  and my boat neighbors heard words coming from my mouth that even I didn't know I knew!!! :smt014

OK...here's the pic of the 410DA air horns....

Dominic-

Not trying to highjack the horn thread, but your picture reminds me of an idea I want to share with you. You will want to retrofit a deck washdown spigot in the anchor locker. I beleive the 400DA's had them - eliminated on the 410. I had a metal shop make me a stainless bracket that attaches to the underside if the starboard stanchion support. I ran the supply tubing back through the starboard side of the forward stateroom and plumbed it in just ahead of the freshwater pump at the base of the forward bunk. What a life saver for washing the forward part of the boat, windshield, and muddy anchor. I keep a 25' hose nicely coiled right in the locker attached and ready to go.

Back to horns-

Jeff,
My '01 410 has a factory washdown in the anchor locker. Could not live (comfortably at least) without it...
Frank, that's great! When I installed mine in 2004, I looked at the 2000-2003 parts manuals online so I could order the parts through my dealer. The washdown was not shown in any of those years manuals, so I figured they didn't have it either. It is an invaluable feature.

Jeff

**I just found a small breakout of the washdown parts on page 83 of the 2003 parts manual, not on page 1 where all of the locker components are.

The blue line in the picture is the supply line to the factory anchor washdown....

There were a few changes from the 2000 410DA that I noticed when I was looking. Another change I noticed on the later 410DAs is that the door to the master is a pocket door...on the 2000 410DA I looked at, it had a hinged door.

Upon looking at the Kahlenberg website, it shows a constant 12 volt source to the compressor, and a momentary switched source to the solenoid to sound the horn. That would eliminate replacing the sissy horns with an air horn without running an additional power (and ground) wire to the compressor.
Thought so, but wanted to be sure... :smt018

Now that I know where the compressor is located, and how much of pain in the #$& it is to get to....my next question is: is there any maintenance required.....

With all this "Thundering" and "Roaring" going on no one can get any sleep in here! :smt021 I have ear plugs on sale only $1.00 per pair or one can of beer, which ever is cheaper.
