Went to boat to check on everything, found heat not working. Fan working, temp setting at 68. Control shows on heat, but shows "heating" for only about 10 seconds, then shuts off and after 5 minutes, repeats the process. Switched to gen operation, no difference. Any thoughts guys?

What is the water temperature. If below 44f I was told the heat pump will not work.

When it shows "heating" that is when the compressor is running and you should have water flowing throught the system at that time.

Is water flowing from the discharge fitting for those 10 seconds?

Is the compressor humming during those 10 seconds?

To all, not sure what actual lake temp is, but positive water temp is above 44, should be in the 60+ range. Yes, there is water discharge through outlet and compressor humming for those 10 seconds or so. FYI, I have run the air/heat throughout the past 3 years without any problems, first time ever heat has not worked.

Since the compressor is kicking off, it may either be low on freon (so there is a leak to be repaired) or there is a valve stuck and the compressor is building up too much pressure which kicks it off.

If there is a digital readout is it displaying any codes during when the compressor shuts down?

No visible code on unit. The only thing that changes is the "heating" message comes on with the compressor then shuts down. It has been cold for us the past couple of weeks, so possibly this has something to do with it. During our so called winter, I leave the unit on heat set to lowest temp of 55. This past w/e when I entered the cabin the temp was 48, indicating unit "failed" sometime over this cold weather the past couple of weeks. I also can start the "heating " and compressor by turning heat off and then on, with the same results.Thx for comments. Stumped!

If not low on gas, starting capacitor or faulty high pressure switch??

I am actually having the same issue on my 240, but my compressor stays on and I do have constant water discharge. I hope you can get it figured out and help me! Good luck.

Check the location of your thermostat sensor. If it is in a location that is 68 degrees, then it will shut off the heater. Mine was in the same compartment as the heat pump, right in front of the coils. I moved it out into the cabin and now have a lot better heating and cooling dispersion. Your control panel is NOT your thermostat sensor......

Well an update. Water temp is around 45, however my neighbor's is working if you consider water flow out every 15 minutes or so! Checked filter on air inlet-OK, checked water inlet strainer-OK. Did a factory reset on control, same result. Again no error codes. Am contacting Cruisair today. See what they say.

The Cruisair Manuals (available on line at Cruiseair's site) say if your compressor cycles on and off the most probable cause is a dirty filter or a restriction in water flow (possibly due to a dirty strainer).

Thx david Paul. Those 2 items were checked today and both OK. have Cruisair manuals in my hand. Sorry your boatless!

thx. Are you talking about the bypass valve shown in diagram?

No one yet. Am still trying to work myself through this. Have contacted Cruisair on email, awaiting a reply. We'll let you know how things go.

Moose, I hope your issue is something easy to fix. As a comparison, I have reverse cycle heat on my boat and even with lower water temps lately our unit will heat the cabin to 60 degrees or more pretty quickly.

George at Coastal Marine Services has helped many dockmates over the years on Lanier. I just wish he would service Mermaid for those of us without Cruisairrrr.....
