Ain't nobody watchin' the NFL?????

I went for watching about 4 games a week to just watching the Giants if nothing else is going on. Can’t get too excited about them these days.

As a Patriots fan it's hard to not watch. I know many think they cheat but most are just jealous and the Pats haven't done anything that many other teams haven't done. As far as Kapernick goes screw him and Nike too. Anything I owned that had the Nike logo on it went in trash a few years ago. I still bothers me when I see any athlete on TV with the Nike logo on it. But of course it's all the $$$.

LOL, to keep getting caught cheating (Multiple times/ways) has tarnished their legacy, they are the cheatriots....

Typical Pats fan LOL.....And I dont think the Pats have ever had a perfect season - was great when the G-men denied them their best opportunity!

Agreed. They have cheated in more ways than any other team has ever even thought of. I will say as a Steeler fan I was appalled when Tomlin tripped Jacoby Jones on a punt return. But to stoop to the lengths Bellicheat has...

Anyway, hard to be excited about talking about the Steelers this year but I still either watch or record and fast forward through it. Other than that not much football for me.

I knew as soon as I mentioned the Patriots the haters would come out. FWIW ever since "deflategate" Brady's passer ratings have actually improved. Go figure. BTW other quarterbacks have admitted to manipulating air pressure as well. Of course they don't get mentioned cause they're not Brady.

I would say spy gate 1 and the most recent spy gate are more concerning.

It’s the planning and effort that the organization put into cheating that people think about

I must say I'm a bit surprised by the near unanimous position of "I don't watch it any more". I figured that viewership was down but haven't checked lately so I just did that. According to the NFL's own stats, viewership is down by 11% and continuing to decline.

No big surprise there. I'm surprised it's not a larger decline.

In our house, if the Hawks are playing the game is usually on. I must say though that my interest level in the game has dropped to almost nil. I don't get all excited like I used to. Meah!

We stopped watching pro football when the fool took the first knee during the anthem. Now we watch college ball and found it to be more entertaining. Pro sports has become insane with salaries and now statements against our nation!!! How disrespectful this is in a nation where they can make more money "playing" a game than anywhere in the world.

Same here. I watch the Steelers but if something else comes up it gets recorded and fast forwarded. If they lose I don't get upset like I used to. But yeah, my interest level has definitely dropped

I am an honest believer in, To Each His Own. However, regarding salaries, no one seems to mind that actors and actresses can make $10, 15 or 20 million for making a movie. How about the cast of Big Bang Theory? the main stars made over $1 million per episode times 22 episodes per year! Now add in residuals. Does anyone think actors work harder to hone their craft than pro football players? Has anyone stopped going to movies or watching them on TV because actors make too much? What about musicians? Has anyone stopped going to concerts because musicians make too much? I stopped going to some concerts because the ticket prices are ridiculous but not because of what the musicians were paid.

How about the last time you applied for a new job or asked for a raise or were offered a bonus....did you tell leadership you were fine with the salary you were making? Did you tell a potential new employer the pay was too high and you didn't need that much? Yes, I understand there is a difference in scale but don't you try to get as much as you can for a salary? Hell yes you did. How about whoever said they weren't sports fans but had a family of musicians. If you're offered a gig for say....$5000, do you tell the promoter that's too much and you really only deserve $4000? I think not.

These guys are entertainers. Actors, musicians and athletes are paid huge sums of money to entertain us. We can choose to watch or not. But if you are going to take the Holy stand and stop watching the NFL because the salaries are too high you need to look at the movies and TV shows you watch and the music you listen to and maybe stop that as well....just to keep all things equal and un-hypocritical.

As for the buffoon that first took a knee....It was absolutely appalling and a lot of sheep blindly followed. Now the guy is just a joke to most people. Yes, there are some that think he is a hero and will buy his shoe. But those are the people that will be stopped by the cops, be told to freeze and put their hands on the wheel and then decide that's a good time to reach for a stick of gum in their pockets and get a cap in the ass. All because their hero took a knee during the National Anthem misguidedly trying to make a point in the worst way possible. Why didn't he just call a press conference, state his indignance and not piss off the majority of the country. This would have validated is belief and he would still be playing football....maybe. I was seeing chinks in the armor and I don't think he was going to be long-term starter. And further, I think he recognized that and found another way to promote and bring attention to himself. His NFL tryout a few months ago was a joke. He doesn't want to play football....he wants to be a martyr.

I've heard a saying, If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'....just don't get caught. All pro sports teams cheat....some just do it better that the Patriots….or the Saints.

I still watch the NFL....it entertains me. I would not watch anything Klapperdick did and I'm not a fan of the Pats anyway so no problem there. But these are my choices and I don't condemn anyone for their choices....unless you are a supporter of Klinkerdork. Then you a sick MoFo.

Other teams have been accused and punished for similar infractions but never get mentioned because they are not as successful as the Patriots. The Patriots are successful because of their work efforts and strategies. The difference in being successful and unsuccessful is fairly small but it takes a lot of effort to gain that edge.

I'm sure other teams try to gain an advantage in any way possible but to jam other teams frequencies? Bug locker rooms? That's a little over the top. I will agree the Patriots are the best coached team and most disciplined team in the NFL but those super bowls will always have an asterisk beside them. Ask Barry Bonds or Jose Canseco

We quit going to games several years ago. We had actually considered buying season tickets with the rest of my family previous to that. The kneeling worked. It brought attention to the fact I was paying good money to pay people that hate my country. I will still go to a game if one the family offers me a free ticket. But, not sure even they will be renewing them after what Irsay and Luck did this year.

If you're a firm believer in "To Each His Own" then it really shouldn't matter to you. I'm not sure why you made the post. But, to answer your question, yes, I am one person that stopped paying for any of it. I don't pay for sporting events, concerts, nor really any meaningful movies, etc...Now, I do have Amazon Prime, and will occasionally purchase a movie on sale, etc...But over-all, having lived out in the Hollywood Hills and having industry friends, has soured me to the whole experience. Forget about team sports and the adult kindergarten that has become. Also, that ticket price at the concert immediately reminds me of the incomes of these divas, and I just say "no thanks"...Not contributing to any of it....I don't want to get into specifics, but by in large I know the train-wreaks this industry and players are...It sours me...The difference between a struggling actor and an arrogant mega star can by minimal on skill, but huge when it comes to simply luck or value compromise. Simply put, they are all over paid. But, that's because of the size of the market. In fairness, they deserve a fair piece of the pie. You mention "Big-Bang", well, they didn't start at that income. Contracts are usually pretty thin for a TV pilot even if it does get picked up for a season or two. But the contracts are typically written with incentives...The money starts to roll in season three...Meaning they have a pretty serious veiwership...BBT went 12 seasons and 279 episodes...So, yes, not surprised of the payday they got the final season. Keep in mind usually contracts have exclusivity clauses stopping them from taking other work...For an actor to get another hit show is like winning the lottery. Not to mention the real risk of being cast typed into the character and having a difficult time getting cast elsewhere....They are simply getting a portion of the money being brought in....Which I think is way too much.

Anyway, I guess my point is, I don't have an issue with any particular "diva" be it actors, athletes, musicians, but the industries as a whole...Basically, I hate the game, not the players...(Well, some players anyway)

To answer you question truthfully, it was late and I was feeling a bit loquacious. My response was directed at people that hypocritically complain of the high salaries of pro sports players but are OK with the salaries of people like the Khardasians, for example. Or other celebs.

In response to the starting salaries of BBT actors how is that different than say, Russell Wilson who made a little over the league minimum for the first couple of years with Seattle and earned his salary via performance. Is $86 million too much to pay an athlete over 4 or 5 years? I guess not if someone is willing to pay it. We all strive to make as much money as we can. At least I do/did....money grubbing bastard that I am.
Shawn

I do not resent someone trying to earn as much as possible in their profession. I used to be a sports junkie back in my younger years. However maybe 35 years ago when a professional baseball player held out for a contract and then signed a 22 million dollar contract saying "I had to make sure I could provide for my family"... and I thought I was doing well providing for my family making 45K per year.. and I realized that I could only go see said player play maybe once or twice a year - I felt the system was getting out of whack and quit paying any real attention to professional sports.

As a 20+ year season ticket holder of the Seahawks I go, watch and still enjoy the game... If you look too closely at anything in life you will find warts.... politics, sports, you name it and you can go down the rabbit hole debating it. I enjoy the sport and will continue supporting it. The playoffs start this Sunday in Seattle at 5:20pm and I'll be there !!!
Go Hawks !!!

Shawn, I thought this was answered in my post. It's not different....I don't hate the player for that reason, I hate the game...It's become too much abut the money and middle America pays the price. I don't think the market should be as big as it is and I vote with my wallet....I don't feel like I'm missing out. If anything it gives me time to do things I prefer to do. To be clear, the players deserve their portion of the pie. Esp. someone that proves themselves and earns it, which is normally the way. It's a true capitalist system. Now, I do dislike many of the players behavior today and I just don't think I'm the market....I watch MMA undercard fights and main event fights when they are shown on reg. TV. I don't need to see a fight live.

But, when they demand high salaries and ticket prices go through the roof.....No thanks.

I don't think I would be classified as money grubbing as I've left money on the table many times. But, I am cautious with the money I have and have no interest in supporting entertainment that disenfranchises people like @Steve S .....I grew up in a time when middle income families could make memories at sporting events and not have a heart attack at ticket and concession prices....

BG, I think we are sorta saying the same thing. I don't disagree with anything you said in any of your posts. I have some teams, sports and players I don't like. Growing up in Seattle I was a huge Seattle Sonics fan for many years. The team was purchased a few years ago by a guy who stated, "I will never move this team from Seattle." Two years later they were in OKC. I haven't watched an NBA game since. There were many NFL Sheeple that blindly followed Krapperbutt, I have no use for them or their teams. I can't afford to go to an NFL game....TV is fine for me.

Anyway, as I said I don't disagree with you at all....but I know there are some that don't agree with either of us. That's the way it goes....

Exactly! i Remember being able to afford "General Admission Grandstand" tickets for the Cubs on Fathers Day that were about $3.50 or $4.50 each - although a slight stretch, I could afford 3 of those for my Dad, sister and I with the money from my newspaper route. Now the same seats are about $80 each and I am pretty sure my grandson couldn't afford them.
