I'm thinking of moving up to a 220 sundeck (maybe 240). I like the idea of being able to walk to the swim platform instead of climbing over the back seat as in my sport. The thing that's really bothering me is you lose seating space with Searay's layout. I'm thinking about jumping ship to Four Winns because I like their layout better. Or maybe even Larson (since there is a dealer close to my house). Their layouts has a removable seat to access the swim platform. Have any of you sundeck owners found an aftermarket seat to fit into this spot? or have any ideas

Not sure what you are looking for. The 240 SD has plenty of seating. I've had 11 adults with no problem, and you can have 4 adults sitting around the cockpit table. I like not having to climb over a seat to get into the boat. Room and storage in this boat is not a problem.

BTW, my MINT 240 is for sale!!!!

charlg.
I guess what I'm trying to say is when underway some times nobody wants to sit in bow (too cold- too choppy ect.) so I was trying to maximize the most seating in rear.

A 240SD with the Lounger Layout will give you seating for at least 6 or 7 in the rear cockpit area.

.....and you have the ability to close off the bow by shutting the door and window which will cut down the wind.

I was thinking the same thing you were until I actually went and tugged, poked, etc arounf a FW 220 with the mediterranean sunpad on the back. My wife loved this layout and it eliminated the walking over cushions that our old 180 made us do.
After looking at the FW we went right to look at our current boat and she was sold.
Even in our 200 there is plenty of seating for everyone.

I like the walk-through on the SD's. I have never had a issue with room. I guess if you really needed an additional seat in the aft, you could put a cushion on the step of the walk through, but who needs that? I can fit 5 adults back there with no issue. 6 would be crowded. I love my boat and would never want a 4 winds. So-So quality and not that much less than a SeaRay! We really enjoy or boat. If you step up to the Sundeck, I don't think you will regret it (or need more room). Just my opinion....and you know what they say about opintions....they are like A#$ Holes.....every one has em, no one wants to hear em :)

With my 240 I've never had a seating problem behind the walkthrough to the bow. Thinking about it I could probably sit 6 plus myself back there, but having 6 people in a boat the size of mine would be alot to deal with.

We never had issues on our 240 with seating.

Our 270 has a center walk through with a filler cushion for the step. We NEVER use the filler cushion. I finally just took it off the boat and keep it in our condo.

As for 4 wins, we seriously considered one (had a contract contingent on a sea trial) this year before we bought the 270. We had the 4 wins out for about an hour, and promptly canceled our contract. The ride and the fit and finish are not in SR's class, IMHO.

I have agree with everybody about the 240SD seating handling 5 or 6 people just fine. We have never had a problem with 6 in the cockpit area. We have put many hours on the boat with the full camper enclosure up with 6 people in the cockpit area. Just to clarify we have the two captain chair setup.

I agree the 240 and 260 Sundecks have more room than you would think. There is also so much storage you will have a place for all the stuff your guests will bring aboard

In this buyers market, you should look at the 270 SD as well. If you are going used or slightly used, the price diff between a 270 and 240 will be small.

With seating for 6 or 7 adults comfortably behind the closed bow passageway and a dedicated rear walkway, the 270 could be your solution.

When the weather is warm, however, 2 or 3 folks will be fighting for the front seats of the SD. Now that my kids are certified operators, there is no better perch on a sunny warm day than the bow seats of an SD at speed. The only problem for me up there is the fact that its hard for me to drink my Patron when the wind is whipping at 40+ MPH.

Do you have a pic of the area under the helm? Is there room for one to sleep down there?

Here's the interior of our 240....plenty of room, IMHO.

Here is a picture of the area under the helm. As somebody else said a small kid may be able to sleep there:lol:

Now the 270 Sundeck has a bigger area, goes all the way under the starboard front bow seat. I got in one myself just to see how the fit was. Very tight IMHO.
