AC water intake

Any valid reason to have a loop like this between the thru hull and the strainer on the AC? I know it holds water.

It's probably not possible to run a straight-shot from the strainer to the seacock. They're too close, the hose too rigid. That would be my guess...

This is probably true. But if it was my boat, and those two hose barbs are close enough inline then I'd loosen the strainer from its mounts, put a short piece of hose between the seacock and strainer, then remount the strainer. Much better to have a straight shot rather than that loop that could trap air or, in the off season, trap water.
 
I agree with all the above, with the exception of pirate lady. The PO might have found it easier to winterize with the extra hose. I know I’m reaching.
 
The other 310s I've seen just have a short hose from the seacock to the strainer.
 
I’m pretty sure I can run a straight hose.
