I have an interesting problem that has popped up with the AC/DC refrigerator on my boat.

About four months ago I closed up my boat for the winter season. I always defrost refrigerator and turn the power switch on the refrigerator off. I have been doing this for 12 years as I see no point in running the unit for three-four months when I won’t be opening the door.

I show up to the boat today and I hear the rear fan that cools the compressor running. The power is off on the refrigerator at this time. I turned the port side AC breaker off and that stops the cooling fan. Keep in mind . . . the refrigerators main power switch that is located next to the thermostat is still off. The power light on refrigerator is off. The cooling fan that is located on back of unit above compressor is running as long as the AC breaker to that side of the boat is on.

With AC breaker on, fan running, I turn on refrigerator. Power light turns on but compressor does not kick in even as I advance thermostat.

With AC breaker off and DC breaker on . . . the fan turns on and off with refrigerators power on and off. Still . . . no compressor.

Any ideas on what to look at before I go out and purchase a new refrigerator?

Thanks in advance.

Someone on the site with electrical skills will help you I hope :) Maybe the fridge is haunted?
