Absolutely frustrated with this Mercruiser engine

Corona helped to sell for an amazing prize this searay trash and now i,m monitoring the market for a bigger boat. Why i,m here ? To exchange experience and help others regardless of brand.

Seems like a disingenuous pastime. Since you consider your former Sea Ray "a piece of trash", you won't buy another Sea Ray and you want to opine how terrible they are.....that sounds like you are just trolling CSR.

And displacing blame. Not only on his boat, but any boat help/assisting/repair/advise category's, but on 'Our' politics also to boot!

Thats not my intention - and surely not my intention to blame this great community here. I just wanted basicly say 'take the money and do not care' based on my described experience with sea ray. But its not on topic here , i agree .

I get what you are saying 77. I have a 2006 215. Not a big boat but what I could afford at the time, last was a18 foot Larson bow rider I bought brand new. I didn't want to finance another boat. I will move up in a few years and will ask this forum what the next best size up will be. I will take that advice from there experience. 100%

Thought I’d share the view of the carnage. Got it hauled out today.

How did it get hauled out so quickly. Did you find someone with a trailer?

Anyway, it will come apart quickly. Looks like you have new bellows already installed.

You definitely hit something immovable to create that damage.

A friend of a friend knew a guy who runs a boat repair business and he had a trailer that he had available to rent. Going to get an estimate this week sometime for the repair.

Not that ugly. From the pic it appears that the transom assembly is still ok, the clamshell is ok, and the drive looks ok. A new gimble ring will be the biggest cost by the looks of it. Most mechanics want to pull the engine and remove the entire transom assembly to replace the gimble ring. That could be a road you don't want to go down. On an older boat, it is quite possible that the transom assembly breaks while being removed - that adds major dollars to the repair. You've already got the "Frankenstein" holes to access the pinch bolt and the steering pin nut so it may be relatively easy to disassemble the unit from the outside.

I'm leaving it in the hands of the professional mechanics now. Will update more once more happens.

We used South Bay here on Long Island for my friends boat that I mentioned above. Not only did they Diag the problems they affordably rebuilt the injectors. After installation my friend no longer had the RPM issues he was experiencing before.

@Hoplite808: I would suggest you contact them (SouthBay Fuel Injectors, 516-442-4707). While I know your in Hawaii you can easily send these out USPS Priority and get them there and back affordably and quickly.

This is a first class company. I had a self inflicted leaking issue when I rebuilt a 350 for a firebird and had torn a couple o rings installing. The owner returned my call on a Sunday, gave me his cell, and overnighted me a new oring set at no cost. I wouldn’t use anyone else

What was the issue before you replaced all the aforementioned parts? Is this a problem that existed before all these parts were changed or did this problem pop up as a new problem? Was the timing chain replaced? As someone else already mentioned the timing may be a tooth or two out between the crankshaft and the cam. Please post once you figure the issue out. Good luck :)

Tim - since you’re new I’ll say it will take a while to read the whole thread so enjoy the 775 posts:);). If he repeats everything it may go to 1000:D. Welcome to CSR!

There was an infestation of gremlins. I tied a bell to the bottom of the engine and that chased them away.

What's the latest on the gimbal ring repair?

Still waiting for the insurance money to get the repair completed. Looks like it needs a whole new gimbal housing and ring. Steering pin area was damaged as well. Thankfully I found a repair shop that had a trailer that could haul it out with. The regular yard here said they wouldn’t be able to haul me out till February unless I paid an extra $4000+ for an emergency haul out.
