As many know my Dad is in Hospice with Melanoma Cancer that has taken it's toll. He's really getting frail and cannot get out of bed any longer without lifting him.

This Friday my Brother and I are taking the day off and will take him down to Ballard, the neighborhood in Seattle he grew up, has friends in and made his living. I'm bringing my boat and will put it in at the 14th Ave NW boat launch that we, as a family, have launched countless times. I bought our boat over a year ago and believe it or not he hasn't been on it yet for a ride.

I'm really looking forward to getting him out of the house and the bed he's been imprisoned to, since early January.
We've let a few of the people that he's worked with over the years know that we'll be coming down. It may be their last chance to say goodbye to a Son of the community, Sailor for fun, Navy Man during the VietNam war aboard the Enterprise, Grandfather to 6, Father of 2 and husband to an Angel and friend to many.

This will be his last boat ride, unless he demands otherwise.
It reminds me of the movie the 13th Warrior where the Viking Funeral takes place, but in this case my Dad gets to hopefully enjoy this. He's a Icelander.
It's hard to write this but know it's something I'd like to share here.

I'll take pictures and share them after our ride.

Salud. Safe travels.

Todd- What a great idea! I'm really sorry to hear about your Dad. Sounds like you guys have got a great day planned, which he will appreciate for the rest of his life, and which you guys will remember for the rest of yours. Cancer can be awful, as we all know, but one of the silver linings to that cloud is that you get the chance to say goodbye. Many people don't get that chance. Make the most of yours! God Bless! Kurt

Thanks guys. It's tough to think about so thanks for letting me share/vent a little

Men do what men do for each other. It take a real man to do what you are doing and you have my highest respect and admiration.

My prayers and thoughts are with you, your family and friends.

Thank you all again very much. Cancer sucks. He's only 65 and it's simply not right. I appreciate the thoughts

Man Todd, reading this gave me the chills. What a great idea. Enjoy, it's these kind of long term good memories that will outlast the short term suffering, for the both of you.

Todd,

Make it a great day for your father, most of us have to at some point deal with these situations with parents. I hope I am as together as you are when I have to go through such a dificult time.

I thank your father for his time in the service for taking care of us.

I did the same for my brother last fall. Cancer is taking him also.
My advice...take alot of photos. You'll treasure them.

Our thoughts are with you.

Thank you again.
It's great to hear the well wishes

I'm sorry to hear of your Brother's battle. Hang in there

Glad you are able to to this with your dad. Mark Twain said it well...

"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed
by the things you did not do than by the things you did do.
So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Godspeed

Be strong, man. Your dad is proud of you. Carry on.

What a touching story Todd. Tell your dad that all your CSR friends will be there in spirit as you depart, saluting him as he so deserves, and wishing you calm seas, and a wonderful journey. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your dad.
