A Sailor's last Voyage....

Thinking of you now and in the days to come-Strange Weather

All I can say is Wow! What an experience for you watching this, I can't even imagine. Very cool how his buddies hung out reminiscing about the old days. I'm sure he had fond memories reliving these stories. He was a lucky man to have friends and family that cared so much for him. This is why I cherish the times I still have with my 87 year old father...

Glad you found the video.

Cherish the memories.

Thanks all of you!

I am reading this thread as I sit in the cabin of a 441 Meridian in route to Charles Town SC today. It is 5am and I am planning my route due to weather changes. Things will change for me but what I do know will happen today, is my vessel will come to an alt in the Atlantic Ocean and there will be a moment that your Dad will be thought of....His memory and legacy will now and forever be coast to coast.

We should all wish to be so lucky.

Todd !!

Salute SIR!

Capt. Rusty Higgins

You have no idea what this means to me Capt. Thank you very much.

It's been a long time since I was involved in this post. After digging through a box of spare cables the day after Christmas to connect an Apple TV, I found the missing cord (proprietary to JVC) I need to get the video off of my old camcorder. I found a ton of video from 2007-2009, including this, the video I took, which I've never seen until yesterday. Surreal.

Swollen from steroid treatments this is my Dad, bald and bundled up on the left in the Navy coat. His close buddies came to see him after his last boat trip.
Great stuff Todd, I know how it is. I've saved a lot of things to help me remember my parents. I had messages on my answering machine for years that I used to play once in a while. Your Dad seems to have been a great guy. He's got a a son that's seems pretty special too.

Todd,
I just read through the entire thread. WOW!!

It was such a short time from the day on the water until his passing. As I read the first part of the thread was like meeting you and your dad face to face then days later he was gone. Kinda left an empty feeling. Then to see the video filled that empty spot again.
That’s how I feel every time I see my dad’s pictures. Like he’s with me again. I’m looking at a picture of a twenty something sailor in is uniform right now. Hard to believe he’s my Pap!
Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you. He was a great guy, well respected and had great lifelong friends that I still stay in touch with.

Thank you again. I hope there is some solace in re-reading the post and you have great memories of your Dad.
