I don't know about the whole 652 miles but the 20 miles that I cruised on today was as flat as can be. My daughter met us at the boat & of course The Admiral had to stop by her favorite fishing hole....

Hey any day on the river is a good! Thanks for sharing.

I have only traveled (on water) about 50 miles of the river, but I've been to a lot more of it on land. Generally speaking, it probably averages a little less than 1/2 mile wide. Of course the dam & lock system make for some large lakes. The river which is 652 miles long originates in Tennessee, flows south into Alabama then makes a U Turn to travel North West into Kentucky, where it empties into The Ohio River just before it (The Ohio) flows into The Mississippi. Commercial traffic is common but every type of recreational boating, from fishing to people doing the great loop, is plentiful. As for current or flow, it's hard for me to say what "a lot" is. It's measured in the tens of thousands of cubic feet per second. I'll just say there is no doubt which way is upstream.

A long winded answer to your question I guess, but....there ya go.

Now that's the kind of water I like to cruise on, smooth and flat .

I cruised 630 miles of the Tennessee River September 14-18 from the source at Knoxville to Kentucky Dam in a 1984 Sea Ray cuddy. Overnighted at Concord Marina near Knoxville, Chattanooga, Alred Marina at Guntersville (unplanned, but there was going to be a 3 1/2 hour delay at the lock), and the last night I anchored behind Wolf Island at Savannah, TN. It was a nice trip except for two hours of fairly heavy rain at Chattanooga.

Wow. No way I could do that trip in a boat as small as ours. Care to share any details? Hours on plane? Two people on board? Best leg of the trip? Any sections you'd rather not do again?

I slipped at Alred in Guntersville for a couple of years but have only been on the water from Guntersville dam and north.

I was solo this trip, but usually have a buddy with me. I've also done all navigable portions of the Cumberland and Monongahela Rivers and 932 miles of the Ohio River in the same 21' cuddy so your 250DA would seem luxurious! According to the GPS that I had on any time the boat was moving, I cruised 651 miles in 38 hours move time. I typically made about 25mph at cruise. I burned 192 gallons of gas. The best part of the trip without question was the Tennessee River Gorge between Chattanooga and Hales Bar, about 30 miles. The ugliest part was on Wheeler around Decatur, AL. It's a big, wide shallow piece of water with a lot of industry.

I just traveled it from KY Lake to the Tenn-Tom. It's an amazing River that was a pleasure to travel down. Quiet, smooth, clean, beautiful scenery; everything that you could ask to boat on!
