This has got to be one of the worst designs ever by sea ray. in the '86-'-88 210 Seville Mid cabin and '89-'91 220DA the fiberglass well where you step down into the cabin has a drain. well this drain drains INTO the cabin..right in front of the entrance to the mid cabin there is a bilge pump under a panel in the floor.
well here is the problem. if you remove your battery or the battery dies in storage or while your not using the boat, and its sittin on the trailer, this step down bilge pump wont work, therefore everytime it rains (if your boat is uncovered) water drains from this step down well INTO your cabin.. flooding the cabin. when i got my boat ('86 Seville 210 mid cabin) the cabin was FULL of rain water from this step down drain.. since the battery was dead the water kept rising in the cabin everytime it rained.

is there any reason why Sea ray routed the drain hose to drain into the cabin?? i am thinking of re-routing the drain hose along the port side of the mid cabin and have it drain out into the engine bilge..where it can exit the boat thru the transom drain plug..

thoughts??

I never had a problem with mine. (86 210 MC) but I did keep the boat covered. I guess re-routing the hose sounds like a plan. I really liked how that boat handled though and would have kept it if it were not for the terrible cockpit layout.

My 90 270 has the drain in the step down area, but it is connected to a through hull port on the port side of the hull. It may be something to look into, I think it is accessible from the storage locker below the electrical panel.

i think this drain into the cabin deal was only on the 210 SevilleMC and 220DA models. i cant put a thru hull port in because the step well is almost at the waterline. And alwhite00, i dont have a cockpit cover for my 210 seville MC, i wish i did.. i never had one.. when i got it, it was long gone. i have priced them getting one custom made and its going to run me about $500 or so :( the guy i got the boat from had a tarp on it but that blew off/disintigrated and since the battery was dead the boat filled up with water in the cabin from this stepdown well drain. It looks like i'll just re-route the drain to the engine bilge. i guess i will need to drill a bigger hole from the midcabin bulkhead into the engine bay but i will seal it up good with 3m 5200 and it should be ok.

My answer is identical to Lance's. I had an 88 210 MC

You may want to use some thin epoxy to seal up the wood in the drilled hole before using the 5200.

You might find that 4200 works better than 5200 for this job. I read somewhere that the 4200 is an actual bedding compound with different elasticity properties that 5200. Apparently 5200 should be used as an adhesive only. I saved the thread that has the comparison chart if ya need it. Good luck.

Originally reading right past what you were using for sealant, I would agree with Chris and the 4200 also - a bit more flexible once cured.

I just bought an 87 Seville.. Charity donation that was bought at auction and re-sold to me.
The water going down this drain is ending up in a holding tank? I see a fuse/switch panel nearby. Nothing happens when I turn on the switches. Would a shop-vac get me started on making sure that it doesnt overfill?

under a panel in the floor directly in front of the mid cabin. there should be a bilge pump under there. the water from the step down drain hose drains into there. (lousy design by sea ray) you should hear the bilge pump come on if you turn it to manual. normally it should be set on auto. if you dont hear the bilge pump come on when you flip the "step dowm pump" switch to man. then you have a problem. check fuse next to switch.

oh, and alwhite - your seville mc was removed from ebay. it was on there yesterday, but the seller took the auction down..

Found it.. automatic switch is no good. Rewired it to run manual.. Pretty small resivoir. I too may route a hose out to the main bilge..

I have a 1987 SR Seville II MC, and yup, same issue. I was considering putting in a thru-hull, but more forward, near the other 2 thru-hulls already there for the sink & bilge pump outlets. Should be enough roon to route the hose forward some.
