6-changer CD replacment

After a closer look, the brackets screw into a solid wood bottom that is used to support the stereo above it. Moving them inward should be easy as you can place the brackets anywhere you need them to fit the DVD player.

That's what I did to set my Alpine in place. I removed the changer mounting brackets and screwed them to the side of the Alpine unit. I had to drill one new hole in the bracket to line up with the screw holes in the side of the Alpine. Then I simply screwed down the brackets into the wood where I wanted it placed. However my entire front mounting panel screws out and was removable so I had easy access, Sounds like you are working in tight spaces.

It wouldn't be so bad if I had an extra joint in my arm between my elbow and wrist :)

Pulling the 12v section of the panel out gives a pretty good shot at everything but it is a little tight. It may look a little Frankenstein-ish behind the panel but it'll end up looking clean from the outside once I get it done.

Here's how the DVD player turned out. I had a buddy 3D print a filler for me to compensate for the old CD changer opening.

That looks great Dale! Let me know how the BluRay functions! I'll be completing mine in the next couple months and will most likely purchase the same one that you did!

Any chance your buddy would share the file? I have a printer and will be doing the same thing in a few weeks.

Great job with that faceplate.

I am interested in this printer information. I have been thinking about getting a 3d printer for these kind of projects and many more. So if any of you can share the type and size printers etc... that would be great. So I can see whether the cost of one is reasonable or way out of my league. Thanks!

Shore Thing 2 - If you're still interested in the CD changer, I'll ship it to you. You cover the shipping and it's yours if you still want it.

I wouldn't see why not. I will say if I were to do it again, I would make it about a 1/4" wider (1/8th" on either end) just to make it a little less critical to center up in the original opening and give more "meat" to screw into. Also one thing I did was make the inside opening a little small so I could ensure the sleeve that the player slips in was snug. I had to open it up a little with a dremel. That was on purpose.

I'll ask him if he can email me the file.

I'll check on that too. I do know whatever he originally got he did tell me he upgraded the print head. Not sure what's involved there.

So far the DVD player works great. My son was watching movies in the cabin while I was out waxing the hull. The remote IR pick up is nice because you don't have to open the panel to do anything with the remote. You can see it hanging down in the picture before I foam taped it to the bottom of the tv over in the TV install thread I have going. It was a pretty straight forward install once I got over drilling holes in my bulkhead.

Be careful, 3d printers can be addictive. I have two, with a third on the way. Expect to spend at least $1000-$1500 for a decent printer with a build volume large enough for something like this. Also, be aware that these things are painfully slow. That face plate is probably at least a 10 hour print. Printers really should not be left unattended for safety reasons, but that is just not realistic much of the time.

DaleM - I tried to pm you back, but your box was full.
