First of all thanks everyone on CSR for being here. The knowledge shared here is awesome. Special thanks to Chad on educating me on some terminology and places to look that I never knew existed on a these boats. The result is that we are now the happy owners of a 2001 510DA. We had a very patient seller that allowed us to take as much time as needed to complete all surveys to our satisfaction. The broker worked very hard to put the final equation together for buyer and seller. Now the fun begins, :smt101 moving a 17 ton boat from Huntington Beach to Lake Mead.

Congratulations!

Glad to see you found your boat.

Keep us posted on the journey!

510--saaweeeeeeettt!!

Wish i knew how to load pics. Got some funny ones of the Ohio State Police showing up at my boat as we were loading to take if from Cleveland to Pittsburgh.

Think you can think of everything involved in a movement of a boat? How about this reputable boat mover showing up to move mine, but forgetting to pay a few tickets here and there during his travels through Ohio (company based in Detroit).

Cliff notes, he got to pay the fines, and also all the things the Ohio DOT found as they went over his truck and trailer with microscopes.

I get held up 4 days and get to rearrange all the arrival stuff.

And, then to add the exclamation point, right near my business, the truck is routed to make a hard right turn up a hill and he bottoms out the trailer. We hold up traffic on a 4-lane for a hour and the driver gets more tickets for that maneuver ( an even the tow truck operator gets a ticket when his out riggers dig into the asphalt and he damages the road as he is pulling the truck and trailer "thru the bottom out"!!!).

Good luck inthe movement and way to go with the buy.

Ok, my first attempt at sending pictures. Here she is coming in for survey haul out.

 nice ride.....

I think I now know what I might want after the 46'..... of course, I first have to get a 46'...

The 510DA is absolutely the biggest 50 ft boat you will ever see......and one with 3406 Caterpillars is a bullet with motors in it.

They are one of my favorite Sea Rays...............

Thanks. We are working with the transporter on logistics for the lake. There's a chance we may be able to do a water delivery without the need for a crane, that'll save some bucks. Frank this one has the imfamous 3196 cats, however all upgrades where done by catepillar, and the survey showed no issues. We figure spending the rest of it's days in fresh water will be a plus. Frank whats your take on the ER on the 510? Go ahead I can take it(smile).

Congrats on a SWEET boat. The first time I seen a 510 I was amazed at the size for a 50 footer. It is a very deep boat. I have seen one sitting next to a 540 and the 510 actually looked bigger due to the deep hull. It seems as though the 380 shared the same design with its deep hull. A 380 looks taller than a 410. One bad a$$ boat that I would love to own one day. A local has one that he painted the sides blue. It looked okay but gimmie a white one. I remember seeing one for sale on the internet that had teak floors and it was awesome-even though I wouldn't want to care for them. Good luck with it!

I too have a boat at Lake Mead - Callville Bay, in fact. I think I may have seen your 510 DA, in the newer part of the marina. I'm thinking of getting a 420 DA - there's a really nice one in MI, and it's absolutely loaded. Even though I've had two boats at Lake Mead for the past 4 years, I'm still interested to learn:

1. If you live in CA, why would you want to boat in Lake Mead?

2. When in Lake Mead, what sort of boating do you do? Day trips, overnight stays or multiple days? Do you beach the boat or anchor off? Do you stay at other marinas?

3. Finally, was it very expensive and hair-raising moving such a big boat from CA to NV? If I get this 420 DA from MI, that's a pretty big trip!

Any feedback would be gratefully received!

Hello Quint!

Sorry for the delay but we've been at the Lake all week geting the 510 in Her new Home. My boat is at Temple Bar. I know the boat you speak of at Callville, MM brought that one in from Florida I think.

1. We don't like the effects of salt water/weather on the boat or people. Lake boating seems to be much more laid back, and we like the warm weather. Besides there's things that can eat you in the ocean.

2. We do both weekends and weeks as vacation time permits.

3.Well I think the cost was reasonable 6k to move Her from HB to lake Mead, however do your homework on transpoters. My friends will tell you I was hard to live with until that boat showed up on the ramp at Callville. We were fortunate that we were able to float Her off the the trailer without the need for a crane(we had one lined up just in case). Callville has done great job on that ramp given the low water levels. The boat was in 15ft of water less than 40ft from the shore. We opted not to shrink wrap because of the short trip, and she cleaned real easy with a good washing. Also it helped to have a good buff and wax prior to departing. As to shipping a 420 from MI, wouldn't it be cheaper to find one closer? Shipping costs will eat up any savings on price. Consider the stress on the boat to.
It will be on that trailer over the road for a couple of weeks. I'll see what pictures my wife has taken of the whole thing and post them asap.

Hey Andre

Thanks for the response. And yes - when you have a 50+ footer, you can stay on the lake as long as you like!

I kind of agree about the whole "swimming with sharks" issue of the ocean, but there are plenty of "sharks" in Lake Mead as well. I don't usually discriminate, but several times we have been at a nice sheltered cove with the kids, only to have two or three go-fast boats arrive with their boom-boom stereos, drinking heaps of booze, swearing loudly, and with girls wearing butt-floss bikinis.... okay, so the last one isn't so bad

I have a confession: I haven't even been to Temple Bar, but now I'm intrigued. Do they have restaurant/bar facilities there? It would be nice going there for a weekend jaunt. We've always stayed within 5 - 10 miles of the Narrows or down the Boulder end of the lake.

Anyway, congrats on your beautiful 510 DA and I hope to see you on the water!

Yep, Temple Bar has a bar and resteraunt. Come on around there's lake a plenty. Here's She is on the ramp with Her namesake praying for smooth a launch.
