500/520 DB official thread

Generator loud? I have read from a couple of you folks with the 48/52DB that the generator is almost unheard except for the water splashing outside. I can’t say mine is that quite.

I wouldn’t say it is loud but I can definitely hear it wherever we are on the boat...

Do you guys agree that you hear the generator running even in the master stateroom?
I can hear my generator but it is more of a dull hum in the background. My new water pump is way louder than the generator.

When I am in the V berth at night I don’t hear the genny at all. I can hear the water pump but it’s very faint and it’s in the laundry hold. I don’t have a washer dryer though the po removes it and put an extra refrigerator/freezer in there and it’s very nice to have.

Mine is over the water tank it crapped out a few years ago I mounted the new one on pieces of heavy water hose ran the screws through the hose they act as isolators you can barely hear my pump.

This is where I was thinking of mounting it. Seems like a better spot to mitigate the noise. Do you hear the pump much when it runs?
Can't hear it at all. Actually, barely audible even when in that area. When the pump was mounted on the plywood decking I could hear it; I relocated it as shown when the autopilot smart pump took it's place. This pump has been changed to a Pentair Shurflo Aqua King II 5.0 which is really quiet. There is no accumulator...

When I remount mine I will try running the screws through some rubber.

Thanks, I am planning on moving the pump to this location.

I also have a “whole house” filter mounted in the Laundry Room.
I believe currently the main water supply runs through the water pump through the filter and into the first diverter (all in the laundry) then from that diverter back to the engine room diverter.

I suppose you could reverse that and move the filter back in the engine room.

Again I am not sure why SeaRay locates some pumps in the Engine Room and others in the Laundry.

The one thing I like about hearing the pump is I know if there is a leak or it is running too often.

It is a good point to hear if the pump is cycling or not but I think I would rather not hear it all the time. My whole house filter is in the laundry room as well but I don't see a need to move that. I am going to remove the pump from the water line where it is in the laundry and move it "upstream" on the same water line so nothing is really changing other than that section of water line that was before the pump will be pressurized as it is now after the pump.

My water runs through a pre filter then a water Softner then into the tank it then runs through 2 more filters located above the pump the ice maker has an additional filter and I installed a filter and faucet for drinking at the galley sink.
The boat has a up filter but I can’t seem to get it to work.
We drink the tank water and make ice it tastes fine.
All the filters and housings can be purchased at the big box stores.

Mine is also at the stern. I can't hear it at all. In fact it was running this week and I only discovered it because I was in there working. I found a small leak in a hose since it took me forever to figure that one out.

Is that a RO Filter under your sink?

What is a UP filter?

Our boat is somewhat older but we barely hear the genney at all. Even if we are out on the deck directly above it, defiantly not at all in the salon or stateroom. Its more of a feel, if that relates. Dont notice it running but i can tell right away if it shuts down.

Sorry it was supposed to read “ultraviolet” filter
The under sink filter is a 0.4 micron filter not RO. my neighbor is a water chemist who I asked to look into this filter prior to me installing one and he commented that it’s an excellent product and company. We have been drinking the tank water for 6 months now it’s excellent.

I would like to get away from schlepping bottle water to the boat each week.

We have a RO system at home and it does a great job making the water taste better.

I wonder why your chemist suggested your system over the others that company sell as “water bottle replacement” systems. Or a RO system.

I like the price of yours too. Looks like you chose an upgraded faucet.

Does your RS2QC do a good job at removing taste?
The water right from our water tank isn’t bad. We have a couple filters in line but there is still a slight plastic taste...

It does a great job the water tastes like bottled water i also have a water softner and 3 pre filters prior to the under sink filter. I believe this is the best economical way to get great tasting water. The system has a cap for winterizing
I opted not to use their faucet I didn’t like the look I purchased a bar cold only faucet although the co tells me that faucet is on all Tiara boats with this system installed.

interesting... may follow your path. Did you say you have a UV filter also?

I actually read the info today on the unit and they advertise it as “bottled water taste” I ordered the wrong replacement canister it’s 6 months old with 2 adults using it daily so I figured for $100 just replace it now.
Yes we have the uv filter but it needs a new bulb and I never looked into where to get it I may now that the subject came up.
Here it is and how I mounted the pump on hoses for vibration works well.

On my previous boat (400DA) they (SR) had the pump screwed directly on the engine room bulkhead wall and it sounded like a drum beating in the boat even though the pump had rubber isolators. This is how I fixed that and it worked great; pump screwed to the hose and then the hose screwed to the bulkhead. I think I used 2 inch sanitary hose.

Thanks for the pics of the mounting of the water pump. I will give that a try before I relocate it.

Did you say your fresh water pump is mounted to the floor? Here is a picture of my set up. Again, I can hear it run boat not overly loud.
