I am looking to purchase a 8' 6" baltic dinghy and a 2003 mercury 5 hp 2-stroke. I would like to know if I can plane and cruise at a planing speed without being at WOT. Most of the time there will be 2 people with a combined weight of 300 lbs. I like to 5hp 2-stroke because it is light and being that I trailer the boat it will be alot easier to move around.

Thanks,

Andy K

Even with those tabs that weight and a 5hp will not likely plane. It might run level, but it will not get on top of the water and stay there.

I have a 6hp with a 8'6" Achilles and it planes quite easily. Friend of mine has a 9' dink with a 5hp 2stroke and his will plane with him and his wife quite easily as well. Once on plane you can throttle back and stay on plane. I would agree the tabs would probably help.

Are these hard keels, inflatable keels, or ?? Just curious! I'm looking for a 5 hp motor and might upgrade the inflatable too!

I have the 9.5 Baltik and a 5Hp Mariner 2 stroke, it will not plane with me and my wife (265 lbs total). With my 4 year old daughter and myself it will but I need to run WOT. I'm going to look into the tabs...

I would like to add some tabs but will they fold back or detach easily for when I roll it up, since I will be inflating it and deflating it every weekend I go because I trailer the boat.

I can see the wingnut on the top of the support, but how are the tabs held onto the transom?

I've got a set of West Marine folding tabs on my 8'6" Bombard (inflatable keel with hard bottom boards) and they made a HUGE difference in being able to get up onto plane. The downside to them is the metal pins used to hold them together are a little tricky to install properly. The tabs work to extend the flat area between the transom and the aft end of the pontoons (instead of letting them dig in). It now pretty much jumps right up on plane. But it's a little twitchy at WOT. How's the WOT handling with the Maxi-Marine tabs?

I have a 9.5 foot inflatable and 4hp engine...wonder if these would allow me to get on plane with 2 people?

ok I can barley get on plane with my little guy and I, weighing in at a combined weight of 230 lbs. When I put my wife in the raft with me we were at about 310 lbs, and we could not get on plane. If I purchase these Trim tabs will I be able to get up on plan with my wife and I?

I'm annoyed just reading this!! I have a 5hp honda, thought it was the best when I bought it, and I cannot get my dingy on plane. Should have got a 2 stroke I guess. boo hoo!

Thos tabs are the best. 99 bucks, worth every penny.

I am 190 lbs and my wife is 120 lbs. I can get on plane with a 4 year old who is 30 lbs for a combinded wieght of 230 lbs, so a 80 lb diff sorry if that is confusing.

I just pulled the trigger, I hope they work out otherwise the wife and I will have to lose some weight so we can plane out

Hope it works out. With my 6hp, we plane with my wife and I. We don't go fast, but we are planing, not plowing.

I have a 10' WM with a 6hp Mercury and I think I have bad gas.....let me rephrase that, I think the gas is too old! It doesn't tach very much at all and seems to have trouble getting out of its own way. I am going to dump the gas in my big tank and fill the dink tank with new fuel. I also need to replace the spark plug as bag gas may foul it. The entire setup is like new but sat in a garage for a couple of years...
