Just had the outdrive bellows replaced on both Bravo 3 drives. Port engine overheats after boat gets on plane above 3000 RPM's. Replaced the raw water pump after inspecting the old pump & found the impeller was intact & in good shape but there was some scouring on the old housing. My last boat developed Bravoitous and I installed a through hull water supply and installed the blocking plate on the transom. I am wondering if something could be wrong with the water hose at the outdrive after the bellows were replaced. I don't want to convert to the through hull unless I am sure it is a collapsed hose between the transom. A mechanic told me it is advised to split the outdrive every 2-3 years and check for blockages even though he didn't feel this was the issue. He is recommending the through hull conversion. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I'm going through a similar problem on my SB engine after solving the same issue on my Port engine. What is the H2O pressure on Port vs. SB engine? I have several lbs difference when I am running now. Port will be 12-13 PSI and SB will be 8.9-9 PSI while cruising. Not sure on conversion - my tech replaced that transom hose on my Port engine (along with impeller and thermostat on both engines). Thinking he'll have to change that transom hose on SB side now...
Good luck and keep us posted,
Richard

Thanks for the reply. How long did it take to change the transom hose and did you drop the steering linkage on the transom to access the water hose gooseneck? Was the plastic holding rings the problem or the actual hose? I am going to haul the boat next week and want to check the hose and connectors before modifying to the through-hull pickup. I will see if I can get someone with a scanner to get the water pressure reading. My boat is a 2003 but does not have the actual smart gauge to display the reading.

I pulled the boat, pulled the out drives and inspected the hose at the bell housing with no problems found. I split the outdrive and found barnacles inside the drive. I cleaned it then painted the inside of the drive. The good engine was clogged a lot worse than the overheating engine so I am not sure if cleaning took care of the over heat problem. That is why I pulled the gooseneck to inspect the hose where it enters the transom. Again, the plastic locking ring was intact and no corrosion at the gooseneck fitting. The gooseneck didnt have a gasket, only silicone. Does anyone know if this is from the factory & do they make a gasket for the gooseneck fitting?

Called Sea Ray and they told me they use silicone on the gooseneck water fitting. I called Mercury and they said there is a gasket P/N 8M0061737 which I just picked up. I removed the riser & exhaust elbow to check for any blockage but they were in good shape. I got new gaskets and will be putting it all back together.
