Thanks ZZ. I will see if I can get a piece out.

Has anyone had to take the Bose sound system out of the old tube TV cabinet in the salon? The display has gone bad on mine and it appears that Bose will service it, so I was going to send it in. However, when I tried to pull it out of the wooden housing at lay-up, it was firmly bolted to something. I could not see any fasteners to remove. Is there some trick to removing this thing?

Mine was held in with Velcro. The problem is you can't just pull it off because of the clearance. You need to use something thin like a hacksaw blade or a long knife to separate it.

Let me start off saying, "I love my 480 DB" but I'm looking at a Sea Ray 540 Cockpit Motoryacht. It offers a mid-ship master stateroom and internal steps from the salon to the bridge. On the 2002 and up, it has the QSM11 616hp engines and an optional massive Sky lounge in place of a lower helm. At a dry weight of 49,000, and the lower horsepower, it doesn't provide the speed of the 480. Does anyone have any advice or knowledge of the 540 CMY. Thanks, John

I think you should open a dedicate thread with your questions on 540MY. This way those that don't monitor 480DB thread might chime in.

So far the only complaint I've heard that 540MY feels top heavy and is rolly when seas are 3-4'ers. A person I got this info from was a previous owner of 540MY, he said that he felt very uncomfortable operating in beam seas on that boat.

My friends just purchased one this summer and really like it. It is a bit top heavy but we generally boat in the Delta or SF Bay so we don't experience large seas unless we head to Santa Cruz or Monterey. It is a very comfortable boat.

Hey Boltman, i'm thinking of doing exactly the same thing. My platform seems tooo low as well. I had already planned to come up with a solution after i pull for the season.

DC , I can't wait to stop stubbing my toes when entering from the swim platform .
My platform is 2" lower then the aft entryway.
I'm going to measure the Arms to see how long the Aluminum needs to be , I'm certainly not going with 2x2 square stock . I'll let you know my findings on the aluminum.

Hey Boltman, I think mine is lower than that.. Where it appears that your platform lower edge lines up with the side trim, seems like my top edge is there. I was thinking of raising it approximately 4 inches....

Thank you Alex and Ken, I was aware the 540 CMY was a little top heavy but didn't realize the degree. Being uncomfortable in 3 - 4 footers may kill the deal for me. Does anyone know the effect of the 616hp vs 660hp QSM11. Just a concern why Sea Ray would put a smaller engine in a boat that is 9000 lbs more than the 480DB.
I will start a new 540MY thread if I get closer to moving in that direction. My objective now is to compare the trade off's between 480 vs 540.

Just a FYI, the 480s are 48000LBS dry weight and depending on the engines could have 660hps...

The attached brochure for 2003 says 40,400 dry. Did any of the '04's have the 660hp QSM's? I've never heard of any 480's having them.

I know it's not exactly the right boat on this thread but close. I'm interested in comments about going from a 2005 390 dancer to a 2008 47 sedan bridge. I know the obvious differences in sway up high in rough seas and some docking visibility differences but would love to see comments especially from those that went from an express cruiser to a sedan bridge.

Thanks!

We came from a 2001 380DA and have never looked back. The layout suits my family much better. I don't see us going back to an express any time soon.

^^^ +1

We came from a 340 Dancer, Never looked back, and don't think we ever will. The sway is not like you would think, it's not bad at all. Much more 'livable' inside.

Do a search, there are a few threads on dancer vs bridge.

Different world up here. Loved my 320 but with all the added room you can't beat it. I was sold even when we bought the 36DB

I'm another who went from a 'Dancer to a Sedan Bridge and would not go back. We hated being down in the cave and love the visibility from both the salon and the fly bridge.

We've had the 550 in 5'-6' waves on the bow and found it to be very stable. Here's what it looks like on plane in a strong wind....

I went from 340 to 480 and agree with others. I would never go back to the cave. My broker who said he would not ever leave the sundancer now lives my boat so much he is thinking of the 400DB. Welcome to the dark side :)
