480 DB Owners Club

Thanks Quality Time. I would like some more thoughts on them. I have a friend with a 60ft with no thruster and he does well, but it is not a sea ray and I would like to know about this model.

Trying to locate a leak of red fluid in aft bilge. I am losing power steering fluid in the reservoir, so assume it is that, but can't find a leak at the back rudder pump or ram assembly. Although, boat is on the hard now and the system can't be pressurized, so may need to wait until spring. What fluid do I use in the reservoir? It is red, so assume ATF, but can't find any manual. The reservoir states a couple of different options for fluid depending on the system type. Anyone know what fluid to use? Thanks for the help.

It could be trim tab fluid, it's typically red ATF.

Trim tab reservoir has remained steady. Pretty sure it is the steering fluid. That reservoir is at the "ADD" mark and the pressure gauge on the top has been losing pressure. It appears to be redish in the reservoir.

Trim tabl reservoir is same level. But steering reservoir has dropped to the "ADD" mark and is showing a drop in pressure on the gauge on the top. Fluid looks to be red in the reservoir, just not sure what it is.

Thanks. I have both a reservoir for the helm which fluid looks to be clear colored. Then i have the power take off the starboard tranny that goes to the ram and pump in the back aft. There is a reservoir on the engine bulk head with a pressure gauge and bicycle pump fitting. Also a filter right next to it. Anybody know what fluid to use? Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure your set up is the same as mine. Use Teleflex SeaStar Steering Fluid. You can get it at West Marine or Defender. BTW, the fluid is clearish not red. You should also change your filter annually.

I'm back to the 480. I would like to get some thoughts. Salon has no leaks, engines are at 1000 hours ( I will have them surveyed with Genny), no bow thruster. How big is the bow thruster when docking. I have never had one so I am not sure if it is a must. I did notice that the wind/spray fairing around the brigade has crazing al the way around and I also noticed that on a lot of boats. Has anyone had to replace and what does that entail? Thanks for the input as I am trying to learn as much as possible.

In order to have flexibility going out in various conditions, I wouldn't buy a bridge boat without a bow thruster.

Confirmed with Sea Star tech yesterday... Sea Ray used a red colored compatible hydraulic fluid that meets the Mil. Spec. H-5606C. I need to either do the same or use the Sea Star oil recommended as HA5430 which is clear in color or yellow. What is odd is up at the helm the fill shows clear/yellow fluid color, but the reservoir in engine room shows red. PO must have filled at one time the helm with Sea Star fluid. I Like the idea of a colored fluid to aid in spotting leaks, but hard to find any that meet the Mil. Spec. H-5606C. Might just need to use Sea Star fluid.

I hope one can help me, I am looking for a surveyor in the Tampa/St Pete area. It goes without saying that they need to be a SeaRay fanatic like the rest of us. Thanks for any help.

Looks good, what brand is that? Any particular reason you didn't use a mount to hold the KVH also?

It's a custom made Seaview , and the KVH is already mounted I don't like a KVH on the mast. This is why I had Seaview raise the radar mount 18" to go up and over the KVH, that whenever use. Thanks for the compliment !!

Looks good Bolt. What are the post for on the ends of the two wings? Are you moving your GPS or other antennas up to those?

Looks great. You are going to love the KVH being out of the way of the RADAR.

Heated garage... I'm jealous.

Yes I'm going to be placing an internets Antenna up there , yeah know the wife has to have her Pinterest and Facebook while she's riding hahaha , oh yes 55 degrees in that garage heated floors it's great . What you store outside TC? I'd hate to have to winterize this boat ....

Does anyone know where and how to order the external salon window gasket? I figure it was made by Taylor, but was not sure if I need to order through my local Searay dealer. Also has anyone replaced theirs yet due to the rubber shrinking over time? Thanks for help.
