480 DB Owners Club

Well I sure would like to have that heated boat house Boltman. (BTW the mast looks good) And we are looking forward to moving SOUTH when I can retire. Not sure if it will be Fla. Maybe Georgia or the Carolina's.

I just got the boat, But I think I have gen. shutdown and overheat indicators at the helm. Not oil pressure though I think the gen. will shut down with loss of oil press. Also can't shutdown at helm either.

Meanwhile it's back in the hole with the block heaters on, cleaning up grounds and bonding connections.

Has anyone had the problem with the sea star steering box leaking. I had our marina check it last week and they told me the box needed to be re sealed but there was a better than 50% chance it would still leak. They suggested to replace it for 900 + labor. Does this sound right?

Quick question about the salon carpet. How does it stay down. I saw on an older post the picture of the carpet peeled back, so how so you keep it lying flat. I did not see any glue or edging? Thanks for the help.

I have my salon carpet up this winter for aftercooler service and some other maintenance items. It's basically just laying there with the exception of some strategically placed screws and being tucked under the salon door trim. The biggest pain was the padding being stuck to the floor from the heat of the engines.

Quality time could you post a picture of the screws? I guess I'm wondering how the edges do not fray apart unless it is a finished edge. Thanks.

I won't be back to the boat for a few weeks but will if I remember. If I recall, they were just short #6 oval head screws with no cup washers. There was no rhyme or reason to the placement. Not sure if they are really necessary since my carpet was stuck in place pretty good.

The edge is not finished on my carpet.

Do they tuck all the edges under the cabinets and then under the soda as well?

There's a carpet "baseboard" strip under the cabinets that it was slightly tucked under. I think it was just butted up against the bottom of the couch.

The carpet is low pile with a foam backing that doesn't seem to fray as easily as house carpet.

I believe they started in model year 2000 to equip the 480 with barrel chairs. After 1999, they changed the orientation of the slider door and shape of the lower salon cabinet on the starboard side. These changes allowed the barrel chairs to better fit into the salon space. Good luck trying to locate the barrel chairs.

At one point we used folding teak chairs:

We later did some remodelling and found these bar stools which were more convenient:

Just some ideas for alternatives.

No Plan, where do you keep your boat. We used to live in Greensboro. Moved to the coast about 6 yrs ago

We have one sitting in the basement that I'd be willing to sell. I'm in PA though...

Jacob - Looks great! Where/what kind of carpet did you buy? Did you have someone install it? I need to figure out what to do for salon carpet on mine.

Greg I sent you a private message.
