OH!, This is going to be a good thread. Glad you started it instead of me. I feel it's posted in the correct place being it's directly related to the 480 layout. Our boat was a repo, so EVERYTHING not bolted down somehow disappeared. Only thing left is the RL80, Depth, auto-pilot and one of the VHF's. There was an C-120, smart talk box and something else ray-marine related (bracket still there with wires from C-120) Not to mention all audio and Video electronics gone. (Oh they left the original Clarion FM stereo) I'm not complaining because the price we paid also reflected these items missing.
I am working my way from the bottom to the top of our boat. Right now I am in the Engine room and lazarette. Next stop the salon for TV and Audio. Then to the fly-bridge. I'll work my way to the staterooms next year.
The Ray-marine C-120 was mounted directly in front of the steering wheel on it's mounting bracket. Not the best looking setup but I think had excellent viewing and functionality. They had moved what ever was behind it in that long rectangular panel, below the CAT EMS, to another location. I did see a picture of someone who rearranged the whole dash assembly .Re-fiberglassed it and flush mounted I believe an E-120 Pretty much in the same spot where my 120 use to be. I think the boat in question is for sale on Yacht-world.
I wasn't planning on replacing my RL80 also. Overlay would be nice, but not budgeted for it now. Since most of the Ray-marine stuff is gone or outdated, I am considering going to a differnt manufacturer. Possibly Garmin. Also looking into Noblectec with a smaller backup system. But having a hard enough time mounting a 12" screen, where would I mount a monitor?
