Anyone replace the latch catch at the top of stairs to helm. Helm door snaps into the latch. You then need to push down on spring lever to release the door to close. The spring in the latch is either gone or broken. Not sure if can replace spring or need to order new latch. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

I have an opportunity to pick up a Zodiac 340 Yachtline with a 40HP Yamaha later this year. I'm guessing fully loaded it's a 750 lb tender which is 3x my current tenders weight. Does anybody run one of these (11'2") or similar on a 480DB and how much of an effect should I expect to feel? My boat's dialed in perfectly now and hate to mess that up by throwing a bunch of weight on the stern.

I tried to remove the latch and there are three bolts holding in. One came out and the other two must be spinning with nuts on other side. Issue is there is no way to get behind the latch. There is a rectangular access panel on the bottom of arch/hardtop, but you are not able to reach with you arm. Will try and post pictures. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Dave

Was the one that came out a machine screw or sheet metal screw? I see no reason for that latch to have been thru bolted and will check mine out next weekend.

Thanks, Quality Time. It was a machine screw that I assumed had a nut on the other side.

I would guess that a previous owner repaired it with toggle bolts. Try putting outward tension on the screw as you back it out.

Thanks, but did try putting a screwdriver/knife under head to give outward pressure and it just continued to spin.

Vetus Bow Thruster....

My survey indicated that the bow thruster zinc needed replacement and I've not had a chance to chase down the model number - I know it's a Vetus device - anyone know the specific model installed in a 2003 480 DB? TIA...

This is the latch. Any idea where to purchase replacement or how to remove locking arm to replace spring. Don't see how to get the arm off. If not, then need to drill out bolts and find replacement. Thanks. Dave

Just brought home our new to us 2000 480DB. We moved up from a 2001 410DA which we had purchased new and are in the process of completing the sale.

Have been a follower and supporter for many years, but lost my email to log in so just created a new account this year. As an owner of a 410 this site has been invaluable over the years, especially Frank's advice on everything from maintenance, to fuel treatment, to general questions, so more than happy to sponsor. Also have spent time reading through this forum and taking notes.

Here is my issue/question. Last week while docking the boat into our slip for the first time, lost the ability to put the port engine into reverse. When the port shifter moves to forward the engine shifts to forward. To put the engine into neutral while in forward the shifter has to be moved about 20 degrees past neutral or the shifter will move itself back to forward. While in neutral if the shifter is moved to reverse the engine stays in neutral and the shifter moves itself back to neutral position. Of course this all worked on the two sea trials and survey last month prior to the purchase.
Starboard shifter and engine are fine. Throttles are fine.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks, Joe

I would disconnect the cable on the transmission and move the transmission by hand to see if it engages. Then do the same with the boat tied up but engine running and see if boat moves forward, neutral, and reverse. It might be a cable issue. You won't know until you manually try moving the shift connection at the transmission.

Closure on the generator LCL error message... it was a bad sensor/sender, i.e., it was an erroneous error!

The sender is replaced, problem fixed.

480 DB Bow Thruster again.... got the zinc only to find out that there's a blade missing on the thruster's prop and I need to order one. From the multi-model Vetus documentation on board, I'm deducing that I have a 130 kgf installed but have to take off covers to actually see the unit. Can anyone confirm that the 480 DBs have Vetus 130 kgf bow thrusters? TIA...

My thruster just stopped working this past weekend when I went to leave the dock. I plan to get a meter on it this upcoming weekend. Hoping it is the batteries.

Food for thought....I am noticing my years gel coat getting a little thin in a few stops. Debating having the hull painted or re-gel coat. I think paint would be better, but I wonder what the cost is for either one.

Check the battery cable connections. My truster quit working and it ended up being a loose negative cable. Don’t ask me how it became loose, but it did. The loose cable caused an arc when the thruster was engaged, which allowed it to eat away at the battery post (soft lead). The arcing ate up the lead post causing it to be too small to effectively tighten the cable to the post. The battery is two years old and I don’t want to replace it yet. I am going to fix the problem with a new cable end and a battery post sleeve from Autozone. The parts were less than ten bucks.

I will check battery connections first, then get voltage test from battery and a cell test done. Then we will load test it. I figure that is the easier order to start. If those check good, then onto the solenoids.
