On my 500 they are 3 inch nuts. I literally made a wrench for them two weeks ago. My stbd side is easy enough to get to but port side is behind the cable master tub. PIA to get to. So I made one from a piece of 1/4 flat plate steel. Little short stubby handle about 6 inch long. Slipped a piece of hose over handle. Works great. Maybe an hour or less fab time.

Thanks... it seems to be either 2.75 or 3”. I am going to the boat tomorrow and will measure it and order the correct wrench.

Update- they are 2.75 wrench ordered

Well went ahead and picked up an adjustable plumbers spanner from HD and went to the boat. This was probably the hardest thing I have done since I used to be a mechanic on Italian exotic cars back in the 80's & 90's. Getting to those rudders in this boat is no easy task then to find leverage and clearance to get in there and loosen the gland nut, spin down the lock nut and then hammer down the gland nut another turn... then resecure the lock nut. Well it all seems easy... but the yogo moves needed to get this done is crazy. After an hour of sweating and cursing I was able to spin both gland nuts down another turn + and re-secure the lock nuts. Vacuumed out the water in the rudder boxes and now they are dry again. Got to say this was a pain in the ass. While the adjustable wrench worked I hate not having the best tool for the job. I just ordered the 2.75 wrench from York Fab so when i have to do this again it qwill be easier. Now need another long trip to verify this issue is fixed.

Wow Grant, I'm impressed. I crawled back there a few times to try and do this and said F it, I'm paying someone. Great job! Have you confirmed it's 2.75"? Thanks!

LOL... 20 years of working for Lamborghini paid off working in tight places...
Yes confirmed 2.75 with a set of calipers

Lamborghini's...never owned one, always wanted a Muira, but my Ferrari 275 at least had a triplex timing chain - unlike later models that needed the timing belt changed every 15,000 miles requiring the engine to be pulled...like boats..."such good negative cash flow"! Wish I'd been your neighbor back then! An Italian car expert as a neighbor - what a dream!

More the Ferrari guy myself but wow 20 years working fo Lamborghini, I think I'd do that for free as a hobby these days! Thanks Grant! BTW, did you consider a crow socket wrench? What's your thoughts on this and if it would make it easier by attaching it to a wrench with an extension?

Sounds good, I'm doing the same. My starboard side is dripping more than it should.
Practice your reverse sit up technique. Laying on the generator holding your torso up while you arms are fighting to get the right angle is all the fun... being 6’1 and 230 is not an advantage in this repair I can promise you. But it is a great work out in typical Florida weather. I think I finished at 220 lol

I still have to tackle the sewer lines that you gave me all the pointers on but saving that for the one week in December that it is 70 degrees here...

LMAO...I know what you're saying. When it comes to the sewer lines, I highly suggest just taking the time and removing the batteries and the water heater. It was only about 30 minutes. It also gives you the opportunity to clean that whole area. I re-painted everything while I was at it.

Jeffery how you been... I figured with all that software work during COVID you would be driving a Sunseeker now.... Any new upgrades on your Dancer?

Hey Grant, I've been crazy busy! All my work now is focused on Labor and Workforce so I'm standing up a bunch of Apps for Unemployment Insurance modernization for the State of Ca. To say Ca is beyond F'd up is an understatement. It sure is getting me close to my new boat though. My biggest challenge is finding something I want in the $7 to 800 range that is twice as good as the 48 Sundancer. The struggle is real! lol... I think I'm going to haul it out next month and do new underwater lights. Honestly I feel like I can keep the 48 a couple more years and it's not really going to go down in value. Maybe that's when I do the Sunseeker. The 57 Sunseeker is pretty damn nice.

Yea Sunseeker is nice but I have to say I would consider the Sea Ray 58 for the money. Keep making that money on that messed up state as long as you can. I hope you are safe from all of those fires... I don’t miss that one bit. I have to say moving here the hurricanes worried me but after being here going on 8 years I am used to it and look at them differently now. I just hope they don’t mess my plans up to run over to the Bahamas in a couple of weeks.... but it is 2020 and if shit can go wrong this year is it for sure. I saw the best t-shirt the other day when coming back from Boston “2020 Sucks”

Grant, I'm a fan of the 55/58 Sundancer too! The 55's have really come down in price. I assume it's because of deferred maintenance. I guess it's all relative depending on what you can get one for and what needs to be done. And then there's the MAN engines. Awesome machinery but pricey to maintain. My problem being in Northern California will be finding a competent mechanic for things I dare not try myself. Safe from the fires yes, but the smoke has been so horrible for the past month we've been stuck inside. Of course over Labor Day we were able to get out on the Bay for a few days but today I woke up and with the sun rising, it looked like we were on Mars. Right now hurricanes sound amazing over this crap. Good luck with your plans to make the run to the Bahamas. I wish we had the ability to do something like that. I keep telling the GF it's time to move once my money train here in Ca comes to a slow down. The grand plan is a 60 to 70 foot Cat and living in Puerto Vallarta. I agree with the T-shirt!

Ahhh... We love the south shore of Vallarta (Jungle meets the beach). That was our California getaway. But... Once you cross over to the Atlantic side it is hard to want to go back to the west coast side. Yes our plan is Playa Del Carmen... Taco Stand, Bar and Dive Shop. I have to stay busy so a few small businesses we be perfect to live the life down there.

I love Playa! I've dove there and Cozumel many times. Vallarta seems a bitter safer these says though. My retirement account will go much further in those locations. It'll last me about 2 years in Ca.
