460 DA Owners Thread

While we are on the Spring time "does anybody know" topic, please would someone advise from past experience how I run cables from the helm into the main saloon by the Power Distribution Cupboard.

Many many thanks for any advice.

I am curious as to which breakers everyone turns off and keep on while at the dock and while at anchor? Should I always keep both converters on? One other question, what is the reservoir on the side of the engine with the red fluid in it, is this a coolant overflow? Wish I could help you with that one Graham.

The only breaker I leave on is Line One with the Battery Chargers left switched on. I believe they charge the main batteries, Genset battery and the bow and stern thruster batteries.

Everything else is turned off.

If you take the top instrument panel out, in the back of the opening you should see wiring going thru a hole. In the cabin over top of the electric panel, you can pull out that top valance, it's not screwed, it's just wedged in there. You won't see the hole but you can feel ans see the wiring, very easy to fish from the hole to that point.

Thank you for that, I have had the top instruments out and was not able to see or feel any cables going through the back in the inside of that area, I will have to look again.

Where does this wiring run through the guest bedroom?

It is a long way (maybe 8 - 10 feet) from above the power cabinet to the back of the dash panel, is this all accessable along that route?

Your help and answers truely appreciated.

Graham

If the hole is there you are almost right above the panel. In mine that hole carried the wiring between the clarion radios and the heading sensor cable

Last week was spring break for my kids so we took out to Sandestin, FL for a few days. This was our first long trip since we purchased KC Lady last May. I have to say she did awesome!! We left Orange Beach fully loaded with water, fuel, gear and holding tanks were empty. The previous owner told me the sweet spot for the Cummins were 2,300rpm. I spent 6.75 hours traveling round trip and figured I used 150 gallons per engine averaging 22.22 gallons per hour. My speed going stayed around 22 knots and coming home we averaged 24 knots. The temps both stayed at the 160 degree mark. Great trip and look forward to making it again.

Thanks Ken! That extension looks mighty fine! At least 8-10" would be my guess.
Appreciate the post!

I finally remembered to dig out the paperwork on the master bed upgrade. The carpentry was $600 for a 9" extension and $950 for the custom mattress.

Well it is time for an electronics upgrade. The boat origanally had a Sea Ray Navigator and an RL80CRC+. When I purchased the boat the Navigator had been removed. I have ordered a Ray E127, an E125, plus a new open array radar. The RL80 and the pathfinder radar still works well but the radar is not compatible with the new displays. I'll ebay the RL80. If anyone has done a similar upgrade please let me know of any potential pitfalls. It seems like a straight forward install so i plan to do it myself.

That seems like a deal for that amount of work. Were there any drawings with the receipts?
Thanks for posting!

Nope sorry, it's the California Delta. All the information is single line items. This transaction was a total of $23,795 and the receipt was on 8 1/2 X 11 paper, no signatures and no one to identify. It appears that there may have been a variance for paying cash too. I know where it was done because I remember walking by it then.

I finally finished the electronics upgrade, 2 -C140W MFD's, new evolution auto pilot, new tridata unit, new digital color radar sweep. It's really nice having two screens, the auto pilot was easy to set up. Mt fiberglass guy did a great on the job on the dash modification. Pictures attached

Thinking about changing the Uline ice maker in the cockpit to a refrigerator. Does anyone know if there is 110v plug behind it or is it hard wired for 220v?

Mine has a common 110volt outlet. It is a 110 volt ice maker.

Looking for B&G instruments repair/replacement sources. Mine have 'frosted over' displays...they're very hard to read.

Here is the latest addition. It is a combination raw water alarm and and engine coolant temp alarm. Borel Manufacturing made a custom sized panel that covered the hole where the mousepad for the old Sea Ray navigator was. A simple install process overall, but running the signal cable from the bilge to the helm was the hardest part.

Electrical question.....I am heading out with a big group of friends in a couple of weeks and me being the definition of Murphy's Law I thought about taking my two Honda 2000 generators as back up.
My question is can you get an adapter to go from 50 amp to 30 amp and will this cause any problems. I am strictly thinking about this as a back up to run the air conditioning in the salon if need be.

My biggest concern if I was in your situation, (being prone to things going wrong), is that you must now be carrying petrol on the boat, always a concern for me, especially in hot weather.

Ensure the genset is totally serviced and up to date, and trust Westerbeke!

Just my 2 cents worth.
