460 DA Owners Thread

Fair enough, 20mph is about right then, but you were commenting on 17mph (15knts) @ 2200. Still that seems slow.

EDIT: what's your fuel burn per hr total? I roughly 40g/hr.

Crap --- I must have a typo (fingers + brain aren't in sync). I typed it correctly last time. I run approx 19-20mph @ 2200rpm burning approx 27gph. I've played around with the props. Originally I was over-propped swinging the original 23x27 very overcropped which on the 480ce's result in broken parts, dropped valves, etc. So I moved to 23x25 which I suspect now I might be a little under propped but much safer.

Ok, right. That's why I was asking. The 13.6 @ 2200 seems to be the bible setting for those engines. Maybe a little under propped but who cares. Enjoy the ride knowing your engines are loving you for it.

LOL yeah. I was just reading a lot of other folks who are going 23, 24 and 25mph with the same boat (year, make, model, engines, etc) and was like "Wow.... did they take thousands of pounds off) or do I need to go on a serious diet? Maybe I need to stop carrying so much liquor onboard?

BTW, I noticed you are over in the Narrows... love that area! I'm over near the Francis Scott Key Bridge in one of the little coves back here :)

Yeah who ever "they" are, something is up with those numbers.

Yeah KN is a fun place. We get over to your neck of the woods a few times a year. My buddy was just up in Back creek last weekend. We go up to Baltimore a few time a year for the Orioles and Raven's games.

BTW, I have two bars on the boat. One in the cockpit and one in the salon. You're good!

Yeah, I was just thinking "Wow my boat is slow" since all the other claimed numbers but maybe she's not. Also thought maybe I should look around and see what snacks and liquor I need to get off this boat but that doesn't equal thousands of pounds (unless my wife hid some LOL).

She's running superb and I'm leaving well enough alone. I probably could get away with 23x26 props but I don't see a need to change things around since she's pretty much dialed in with regard to the fuel curve like a mechanical 6CTA450 and recommended 13.6@2200rpm.

I take a lot of pictures and log a lot of data just to baseline where things are and then after I make any changes. Mainly because I"m a data analytics type of person and seeing the changes helps me better understand if I'm making things worse or better LOL.

Ok got it. You have hard top? Hydraulic platform? Full of water? How many passengers? Full of fuel? What engines, what props are you running and what rpm are you achieving 23mph?

Hello 460 team, I am looking to purchase a 460 with a hardtop and I see quite a few without the bridge A/C. Has anyone added this after the fact or if there is an existing thread with this info please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Yes there’s a thread right here in the 460 if you go back in time and scroll through someone added an a/c and walks through what they did.

Hi everyone,
Not sure how it happened but a few screws came out of my captains seat and it’s moving around more than I care to admit. Any idea what size screws went on the seat originally and how the seat mounts to the pedestal itself?

Need some help from my 460 friends.

Today at the lake the swivel broke in half on our anchor. Leaving it at the bottom of the lake!

What pound anchor do you all have on your 460?

It is the one thing I don’t recall about our boat.

45 lb. Galvanized plow, according to parts list

"Ultra 60" anchor. Love it! It's expensive but if you anchor a lot (we do), it's been "set it and forget it". Not just a sales gimmick. Also highly recommend you use a bridle system as well to reduce the swinging around.

Sorry I thought the picture would be clearer to see the RPM. I was running 2250 to get 23 mph. Fuel and water tanks full with 8 passengers onboard. Props are 23x26 with a #7 cup. 2001 with Cummins 6CTAs. Yes hardtop and hydraulic platform.

Thank you very much and I had to squint to see the rpm gauge and still my old eyes didn’t get it LOL. Thank you so much for posting up this info. Your #’s make a lot more sense to me now. You have 1” more prop (23x26 vs. my 23x25) … are you still at 13.6gph@2200 rpm? I’m assuming the #7 cup is a “HEAVY” cup? I keep asking all of these questions because, while I’m pretty dialed in, it’s clear that I’ve lost a few mph and trying to develop a plan to gain them back without the risk of hurting these 480CE engines I have :).

I have not been able to figure out where to find the engine hours on my 480CE's. The boat has Smartcraft, and I've followed the manual on where I should be able to pull up the hours, but I only get to a service log page. Are there analogue meters on the engines?

And while I am asking stupid questions (!), where is the main cabin AC unit located? The manual calls out under the stbd. side sofa - I see nothing under the sofa other than dust bunnies!

The short answer is that you should be able to see the hours on the smartcraft and scroll through the many features there. I can see the hours on my MFD (Garmin display) because I have it connected up to my NMEA2000 network.

Main cabin a/c is located on the little table on the left hand side of the couch. If you pull that table up, it comes right out so you can clean the filter and such.
