460 DA Owners Thread

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. Who’s got the best replacement for this mast light? Mine is bent and the salt water has sent it to bed.

I’m looking for part numbers for the wiper motors on a 2002 460 Sundancer. I found one post here but the number shown does not look like the motor thats in boat. AM equipment has been less than helpful. Anyone have part numbers, source and have taken the port wiper motor out?

Thanks

had to cut the top inside of the fridge cabinet and part of the side of it too, (where the original TV was) to get at the wiper motor,
not an easy job

Hi all,

Not looking to get into the debate on what brand of fridge is best this is more of a question for us 460 owners.

Do you find your fridge hard to vent to the back of it to help with cooling of the unit? Have any of you done something about it to better circulate the air in the back and did it improve the fridge cooling?

Have you looked behind your fridge? I was running wires and removed the top of the old tv cabinet.

There is so much space back there you can hide a few friends

My wife and I anchor out a lot these days and I have a few questions.

* I have two 8D batteries (both for starting port/starboard) engines and they also serve as 12 volt house batteries.
* I have two group 31 batteries for the bow thruster
* I have 1 separate battery for the generator.

Since we anchor out a lot, is there a better setup?
Is there a way we can tap into the 24v (2 batteries for the bow thruster) since it's only used minimally?

I'm not looking to go spend money but would love to get more time at anchor without the generator (if possible) while taking advantage of the setup I currently have.

Thoughts? Anyone else here anchor out a lot?

BTW, when it's super hot out, the genny is running. I love the quiet but I also love staying cool :)

We stay off the dock 4 to 10 days at a time.
We have a Xantrax inverter/ charger with a bank of four 6 volt agm in parallel. This powers all the 110 outlets in the boat... it does not power the AC or hot water heater.

Our battery set up is .
Two 8D for starting and 12 volt house.
One starting battery for the gen
Two group 31 AGM for the bow thruster and swim deck
Four 6 volt AGM for the inverter/charger
Two 60 amp DC to DC chargers going from the 8D to the inverter bank. This will charge the inverter bank when the engines are running.
Each battery bank has its own charger.

When off shore power it is best to stay ahead of your batteries rather than letting them drop two low that you can't bring them back to life with the gen and then you are fighting it the whole time. .

The inverter is nice but when that bank drops below 12.8 it shuts off the inverter until the bank is charged back up or until you run the gen.

I run the gen in the morning one hour, mid day one hour, evening around four hours or as needed to bring all the batteries up.

We are looking to adding four flush mounts Renogy 175W solar panels to the hard top. Just deciding if they will really be flush mount and not seeing as I hate clutter. These would be wired to the inverter bank.

One thing you can count on at lake powell.
You will always be short on
Fuel
Ice
Water
Battery power

If you are looking to run your AC off of a battery/inverter bank that would be a huge system and would have to be dedicated just for that I would think.

Yes so much wasted space there. You would of think they would of given better access. I was thinking of installing a fan back there to move air around. I would put a switch in the cabinet above the fridge.

I switched to this one four years ago. Fridge is on top where it is more easily used and freezer on the bottom. All cooling is on the bottom too so there's no chance of overheating. No coil on the back, all sealed and the fridge seems slightly deeper.
Very happy with it and good customer service from the company. All I had to do was flip the doors and shorten the "fridge panel" so then it leaves space on the bottom for the cooling. Still looks factory correct.

The original Norcold freezer area seemed slightly bigger but the main fridge area on the Nova Kool is definitely larger and that was important to us. Much quieter unit too. I think mine is the RFU9000 series and is 9.1 cu ft according to the ad. Fits in the same space as the original Norcold. You just have to remove that cabin door to change out the refrigerators.
And it's still AC/DC so no genny while underway. Your inverter setup should handle it well.

No, not looking to run the ac off of a battery or inverter. Just the basics (fridge and other minor stuff). My temp solution is that I added a few EcoFlow units (which power my spare freezer and fridge).

Where did you mount your four 6 volt batteries? I, like some others here and probably you, have the hydraulic platform which has two group 31's which only get used for the bow thruster.

Also, where did you mount the inverter?

Thank you,
Tim

Great idea and yes, there is a LOT of wasted space back there. Very surprising....... I thought they would have used the space for more stuff in there but there's a lot of room for a party :)

Inverter/charger is in the back corner Starbord seat and the battery bank is in the back starboard corner of the engine room.

Doing some cleaning in the engine room and I filled up the area under the port motor with water before I realized that they don’t drain out. Is that normal?!?! Probably has good reason. But very annoying for a clean freak. Anyone drilled holes or something to drain?

Yes it’s normal and I use a shop vac to suck the water out :(

It’s a requirement to contain oil leaks from the engine so if you have a disaster you don’t pump it overboard. Shop vac works well
