460 DA Owners Thread

Wow that’s a lot of weight. So we are about 600-700 pounds heavy on the port side likely. Thanks!

unfortunately I believe that’s just the case. The galley and head are both on that side. I wish Searay would have moved the fresh water tank more to the stbd side but wishful thinking is all it is. If I’m going on a long trip I fill both fuel tanks and use the tabs to even it out.

30-50 gallons at 8lbs a gallon is really just 240-400 lbs.

Ice maker-better to buy a new one or buy ice maker part. Is it worth trying to fix?

I think you’ll get mixed opinions here. I’m in the replace camp. My boat is 20 years old. If somethings broken I replace it but it’s definitely not the most cost effective method.

I changed the controller last season. And ice is dropping all the time. Just under $225 for the parts

There are a couple folks who have added lead shot. You can put it behind the salon sofa. My opinion is adding weight to an already overweight boat just doesn’t make a ton of sense but to each their own. I’ve thought about adding an auxiliary fresh water tank behind the sofa and at least the weight would have a purpose.

That's interesting, my 460 is fairly level at the water line and does not have any pronounced list. However my previous Four Winns used four large lead bricks for compensation.
Why not check if you still have as much list when your power cable is fully retracted into the "barrel" on the starboard side? I rarely extend that cable, preferring instead to use a 25' "cheater cable" to attach to the dock pedestal. In my case the weight of that 75' fully retracted cable on the starboard side, might help to correct that imbalance??

Doesn’t help me. I’ve heard some of the later models are lighter… jaws is yours an 03-05?

I have the mechanical engines

With mechanical engines follow NotHerDecisions advice. With a clean bottom and boat fully loaded you should achieve 2700 WOT. If not then a pitch reduction would likely be necessary. A good prop shop could help you with the amount.

Going by memory but both props from the factory are 23 x 26 H cup, Hi Torq. LH and RH are same specs. In 2003 the props were bumped to 23 x 27 for the 480CE motors. Many of us have reduced the pitch and played with the cupping to increase the WOT however.

I ended up with 23x25 props and am seeing 2-3mph decrease in speed vs. the 23x27. Normal or do I just have the slowest 460 with 480CE’s on the planet? I’m about 40k fully loaded.

No, it's a 2002 but the balsa sides became divinyl (or something like that) mid 2001 year. I think our boats are equipped the same. Hardtop, GHS. I usually leave the dinghy behind for trips.

We are 35,500 lbs fully loaded with 600 lb dinghy and full fuel. But how accurate is the Travel Lift gauge?

I’m around 250lbs and I can tell you that if I get on the starboard side of the swim platform, it makes very little difference if at all. I just did this exercise with a dock mate and was surprised that a lot more weight was required to adjust this list to port.

I only have about 10 ft of cable out to the pedestal.

We had a great weekend on our boat! It poured on Saturday, but the canvas and isinglass kept us fry! So glad we checked the forecast and put it all up!

Our Sharp Carousel Conv/microwave's display is unreadable. I've searched for a replacement control panel, but of course, it's old and no one has them. Have any of you replaced your conv/micro? If so, with what?

Thank you!!
