Sad to say that my boating season has ended abruptly. I didn't go down without a fight though!
We made our last trip from Mackinac Island to our home port on August 2nd...entered our harbor and topped off the tanks and proceeded to our slip. Spent the next 3 days cleaning and doing a little bit of work at home and decided to invite some friends out for a cruise on August 6th. They hadn't been to a restaurant since before shut down so we were going to cruise across Grand Traverse Bay to "Knot a Bar" in Omena. They had to be very careful not to get hit with the VID as their son was drafted by the Saints in the 3rd round..he couldn't risk getting sick before signing his contract as a rookie.
Well, they arrived at the boat, we chatted and then it was time to depart....the port engine would crank but not turnover...what do I know about diesel engines??? Very little when it does this! I tried priming it as it didn't seem to be getting fuel. A day later my mechanic called and walked me through some tests to try, those failed also. He arrived at the boat on the 12th and after a couple hours determined it to be the EDC. (We swapped the STBD. engine EDC to the port and it fired right up.) We both thought, No big deal, get it ordered and get back on the water! A small fee would be paid for this new EDC of course...$4,700.00! Oh well, 5 boat bucks it is.
The sad news came the following Monday when he called and stated that the EDC has been phased out by Volvo Penta and the new vendor won't have production on them up until Q4 2020. You hear that? They phased out the most important part of the engine before the new vendor was up and running...idiots!!! Trust me when I tell you that we have called every VP dealer east of the Mississippi and no one has it. A dealer in Maine told me to "get in line" with everyone else that is waiting for the same part. WOW!
So, our beloved 460 is now more of a barge than a boat. We have a very nice harbor we call home port, but it just isn't the same when your "Stuck" in it. We will have 6 more weeks of floating on it, then we will put her away. Haul out day is always the hardest part of the season, but this one may be the worst ever.
Have a great rest of your summer everyone and here's to calm seas and light breezes.
I have a friend that owns a 2003 460DA (as I do) and he replaced his actuator. I just emailed him for vendor and part number info. I will reply when I hear back.Definitely not the pa14.....just tried installing it..... was about 2-3" too long before the actuator.......

Water can come from the shower/galley sump as an overflow, from the hot water heater drain, or potentially from leaks in the fresh water tank. You should be able to see it when you move your aft cabin sofa forward with the motor.Roger that, thank you! Haven’t put eyes on that one yet. What is the function of this one and where does the water coming from? Overflow or something else? All the others look and work fine. I’ll have to get my eyeballs on this one. I’m assuming I pull the couch top away from the wall or something like that to get to it?
Sorry to hear that Wolf.
As being an old VP powered boat owner both D4 and KAD series I know well the EDC/EVC issues.
Have you tried https://www.marinepartsexpress.com/ ? I did my shopping from them when somenone is in USA and could bring them to me or try https://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/default.aspx with your engine info or at least contact them as they are in Sweden and a huge dealer.
HTH.
Thanks Melida...We tried everyone! Marine parts Europe allowed me to place it in the shopping cart..go to checkout but then couldn't get USA as a country to ship to so I emailed them. The response was they could not sell to USA. So I asked if I could have it shipped to a friend in Russia or Portugal and they said no, only to a certified dealer in their region. So, I asked for a list of dealers that I could reach out to. They finally said, we don't have it and neither will they. It is on back order until Q4. I laughed...then why do you show it in stock??
Marine parts express was the same story...they don't stock that part and only order direct when someone requests it. But, they will allow you to add it to your cart, checkout and pay before they call and tell you it is on back order. They basically said it costs too much to inventory an item like that. I don't blame them.
I have tried as many EDC/ECM repair shops as I could find, all with no luck. Also searched for engine junk yards...or re-man's....nada!
I would say I have given it YEOMAN'S effort but to no avail!
Sad to hear that Wolf.
One other attempt I can suggest you to contact a forumity from an other forum who is a Volvo Penta specialist in UK but I don't want to violate CSR rules, if not then I will write his info and forum site.
Sure, PM sent. Why don't you message me?

Thanks - I have been working my way through the posts. I once had a contract on a 330 fall through because of wet coring in the deck - unfortunately, the moisture meter was the very last thing the surveyor pulled out, so I've learned to ask to check the decks first!Welcome to our corner of the the internet! Mainly just suggest you read this entire thread and you should have an idea of the issues. Looks for wet coming around all the port lights, stanchions, and engine room vents.
