46 DA, What do you guys think of this boat?

Nice!! It is a salt water boat though. (Just kidding based on that other thread. ). Like that teak/holly? Flooring looks nice. High hours. I would not need the tank racks hopefully they are easily removed. Seems like a good deal keep us posted! One of my favorite sundancers.

High hours? someone smokes crack here.

No.....its the Cummins that smoke.

It is a soft top 460, maple interior and high time too boot. It is cheap but probably priced a little high for what it is. Here are a couple of other observations:

1. Look for a hard top 46 with options and 75-100 hours per year of age. Stick with Cummins engines and a cherry interior, all because that is what most buyers want. You will pay more for the boat, but you will get every penny of the extra $ back when you trade or sell.

2. If you want a boat this size and are stuck on the price of 46 in the ad, try to find a very nice 450DA. They are in the $160K to$180K-ish price area. They have the same features, handle better, and are more efficient and cheaper to maintain with Caterpillar engines than a Cummins powered 460.

Thanks guys... I was just browsing around... The process begins with a dream... I like the idea of a hard top...

Absolutely, amen!

I have no idea why would they put the tanks for the add. I feel like she was used as a dive boat, that would explain the hours.

No.....its the Cummins that smoke.....

Oh Frank...Frank...:smt018.........I didn't know you had this special feeling even for one of the most dependable engines like 450Cs.:smt001

Alex, We are only looking for a bigger dance floor...:smt038

Yeah, I don't know how long Nancy will take dancing on your seats ....Michelle and I are actually making new playlist...as we "speak". It would help a lot if the weekend wasn't a total wash off. :smt089

So this boat is more like it with a hard top 2002 and only 119 hours...

They are asking 209K... something to save up for...

Oh man, you go from one extreme to another. 116hrs on 2002 doesn't sound right, even though the boat looks great.

I know where there is a really nice 410 that you can look at !

Frank, Do you take trade ins? We were actually looking at the 40/41s...

Alex, Low hours scare me too. But this boat is close by... Still in the looking mode, we will keep an eye on it...

I say you can't go wrong looking for a bigger dance floor.....I want to move up to a 420 da or 450 da with either 3116's or 3208's. I do like the Cummins but Frank is right the Cat motors seem to be easy to maintain. Made the mistake of boarding two 450DA's this past weekend with 'the girlfriend"!!!! Obviously she fell in love with the 450 and they are pretty descent on price and move quick for that size of a boat. And then there was the 65' Marquis......may just need to trade girlfriend in and keep the 350...save money lol!

Boating and dating are not rational activities, they are emotional... I find dreaming of the next boat inspires me in an economy that is down right depressing...

You are right about that......That's what keeps me from buying another boat ....too scared of what's next but dreaming is what keeps us all going.

These are just asking prices, not selling prices. It's got a lot of things going against it, I bet you could get a very very good deal.

Low hours doesn't both me as much as high time.

With low hours, it just adds one more variable to your due diligence.......i.e. was the boat maintained and were the zincs changed regularly which you can usually figure out by looking at the service history.

High time diesels don't usually bother me......I've got 3 in various equipment with 4000+ hours on them.........but with high time Cummins marine engines, you have to worry about how many times the engines were over heated in addition to the maintenance and zinc questions above.

An absent service history in either case is another red flag.

If you are looking at a Cummins equipped 460DA try to determine whether the 160 degree thermostats have been switched out to the 180s. If so you are encroaching on the safety zone. Also, have the after coolers been serviced? The two best things you can do with these motors is keep an eye on the Sherwood pumps or upgrade them to the SeaMax, and stick on a pair of Wolverine pan heaters. Otherwise these motors are bulletproof and fairly easy to work on IMHO.
The 2002 model will have no balsa in the sides. A hardtop is desirable and the guys with cherry interiors say their boats go faster although a maple interior really brightens the interior.
Have fun looking.
James

Thanks for the input... We are still at least a year out, and I have other things I need to do before I could justify the added expense...

I wonder how the future used boat market will look like, with so few new boat being purchased. Looking into my crystal ball, I think prices of the used boats will soon stabilize, if not increase due to deceased supply in the future... In other words, I can't wait too long, or I will be paying more for the same boat...
