What is the consensus for Onan 9kw genset oil? SAE 30 or 15W-40? I believe manual may recommend 15W-40, but I do not have it in hand at he moment. Thanks.

UPDATE:

Service manual specs attached. SAE30 is for 32F and up. 15W-40 allows for temps down to 10F with the same max temp ceiling. My local mechanic chooses SAE30 for whatever it's worth. Primary reason for my asking was that SAE30 was not readily available from sources I went to and I wanted to service genset before 2 week trip.

rotella 15/40, same as the engines.
It’s a Kubota motor used in several applications

U over thinking it sir

Not over thinking. I'm getting two different "opinions" from fellow boaters while at store purchasing oil. Began to doubt myself.

i run rotella in every Deisel engine I have. It’s fine! 3 farm tractors, 1 rtv, pickup, and at least a dozen more trks at the shop. Skid steers, excavators, etc.

My Kubota RTV 1100 has the same engine as the onan 9kw. I have had 3 of those, ran rotella in all of them. Rotella has been in my 06
44db since 1st oil change according to records.

Where would be a good spot to install a rear facing camera? I ordered a Raymarine CAM300 and would like a cockpit and rearward view for keeping an eye on things while underway and backing into the slip. I’m thinking above the salon door, but don’t know if there is space to run the wires. Post a pic of yours if you have one, and let me know how it works for you.

I repurposed one of the cockpit lights for a camera. Sitll plenty of light back there. The OEM ring for the light fit perfectly around the camera housing. I not sure if you can get the RM camera mounted like this however.
And I'm adding another camera on the bridge roof with a couple of spreader lights. 3D printed housing.

A quick snapshot from that camera a minute ago. Dark here; IR camera.

Cheap Amazon camera still going strong 4 years now. Not waterproof so installed on the interior of the enclosure below the bolster. Only downside is the ir makes it unusable at night due to the reflection off the glass. The one in the arch is axis ptz for remote monitoring.

I’ll have to test a few spots. I’d like it in the cockpit, but I don’t know if I can commit to drilling holes in the fiberglass. Running cables would be a challenge too.

Maybe I can mount it to the canvas above the nav light. Perhaps with a bracket.

How is your spreader light mounted?

The admiral found a solution to our lack of light for dining on the bridge. Cool little rechargeable down light that is perfect for dining. Think she saw it in a restaurant.

I thought you switched to LEDs. Still not enough light on the bridge?

Originally I was going to add a 3rd light on the arch. But, after converting to tri-color mirage, we get plenty with just two.

Alex I should rephrase...This lamp has more "intimate dining ambiance". Allows us to light up the table and still enjoy our surroundings. The arch lighting is more than enough if we want to light up the entire bridge but then its like a beacon in the mooring field..:)

Nice light, can I ask where it was purchased from?

Received as a Christmas gift but will see if I can find.
