If you open your power panel in the salon you can run it without removing the cockpit fridge. Take the 3 screws out of the top and it will fold down on the hinges.

Maybe i will try the port side then. Hopefully it will reach. Thx.
I've run 30' cables from the forward bulkhead in the ER with much to spare. You should be good.

It would have been nice if Searay had run several wire pull cords in the large plastic wire conduits for adding equipment. Way easier than fishing a wire tape after the fact. Just sayin.

Rusty, appreciate the offer, but no worries, I can get it when I am ready. Figured this was something you may have right off the top of your head! :) I am a little concerned with some of the lighter davit setups but did find a davit from Sweden, Presto Marine Lift XL500. I am trying to find more information on it, but the Youtube videos look interesting.

Did you end up finding something that worked? When I was looking, I couldn't find anything I wanted that wasn't ridiculously expensive, so I designed and built my own out of carbon fiber. When I say "designed", I took a basic cantilever design that's out there and made it my own. I'm still working on some of the details, but it works great.

Love to see your build details on that, did you use a mold or build it all out of sheet material? Looks good.

I built a base out of 1/4" plywood and used 3-4 layers of CF on the inside, then laid 6-8 layers on the outside with more layers on the high stress areas. I'm pretty sure it would lift my car, but not testing that theory anytime soon. I forgot to mention the winch I installed in the transom locker to lift in and out of the water.

Again, great job. Not a small undertaking at all. Those of us that embark on such projects realize that if we kept track of our time that the more efficient thing to do is actually buy a production model but you just can't beat the satisfaction of engineering something and building it your self unless of course it all turns out badly. We just don't post those experiences:D I built a set of Weaver knock offs myself but my dink was just too heavy, I then ran into the deal of the century on a used Nick Jackson that I restored and adapted to my use. Works great and cost me under $300.
Cheers

I think I'll order some carbon fiber wrap and cover my existing panels to see how that looks and if I like it Ill use the hot bonding equipment at the school to layup some panels, I have a tone of carbon fiber cloth on hand. Great idea!

I just placed my order for the Carbon Wrap. Hope to have it done later in the week.

That's exactly what I did after completing my bridge A/C installation. I knew I had lots of projects in the future and would need to reuse those runs, so that's where the conduits came very handy. Every time I pull a wire through, I add another pull cord with it for the next time. Worked like a charm. It's just it gets harder and harder as I'm running out of room...LOL

I cut the hole in the hollow stringer between the engines today. I have a piece of glassed plywood in the center. Vacuumed out maybe 3-4 gallons of water.

From time to time, I get 1-2 gallons of brown stained water under my port engine. I is not rain water as boat is under cover. It is not wash water as I simulated that today with no success. It is not a an engine leak either. Saloon AC is on the starboard side and have not used it yet. This one has me stumped.

In my hunt to totally eliminate brown stained water under my port engine, I am thinking it is coming arount my port side ER vent. This is totally theoretical at this time, but...there is some trapped water somewhere behind that vent. When I wash my boat, water enters through deteriorated caulk around the ER vent and is somehow added to the trapped water. The trapped water overflows into the area under my port engine. I have attached a drawing from SR. Has anyone ever drilled the specified hole?

Looks a lot like the Nick Jackson set up. I have a quote from them that I believe I will go with when I close on the boat.

Rob, you will like your Nick Jackson. Not cheap but well made and will definitely fill your needs.
When do you close on the boat?

Still need to complete the sea trial. The Ohio river where it is located is junked with all the rain, so as soon as that is complete I will immediately close. I am hopeful it will be in the next couple weeks.

I haven't...not sure if the previous owner did. Will check this season. I have occasional stained water under the port engine. Tried to determine the source last summer. Thought it was maybe a leaky engine anode.

Is this only an issue on the port side. Construction is the same port and starboard, isn't it?

Yet another captive compartment. Such a bad bad idea, in my opinion.

Construction is identical on port and starboard. Last night, I set a water hose on the port gunwale just forward of the FW fill cap and let it run 10-15 mins. As water travels aft, it starts to spill over the side just past the last stanchion mount. It runs down the side and contacts the ER vent 6” or so from the end. Mine were not horrible, but needed to be recaulked. This morning, sure enough, there was about a 1/2 gallon of water under my port engine. There is water trapped somewhere as the water is brown stained...new water overruns what is trapped and it winds up under the engine.

The end of the shelf in the drawing where they are indicating to drill the hole, is in the rudder well. I am seriously considering drilling a 1/4” hole and see what comes out and then drill a bigger hole if there appears to be trapped water.

Please keep us updated--I have a slight listing to the starboard side and suspect a similar issue-- thanks

I most certainly will. Getting to the end of the so called "shelf" on the port side looks doable. The starboad side, not so much. I also have an ever so slight list on the starboard side. That list may increase if I get water out of the port side....Stay tuned....

Okay you leak hunters, see if you can help out in this one. 2004 420 SB always had been a dry boat same owner now for three plus years.
There is water collecting in the aft pump well via the channel on Strd side of center walk. We sponge dried a few gallons out of the well, then tracked back and found water had collected in the underwater exhaust area out board of rudder shaft well. Dried all of that area then went for a run. All was dry until we came off of plane and found just as much water in those areas. I sat back there behind the genny with a flash light and watched as we went back on plane then back off, get a bunch of water sloshing to the stern from under the genny into the rudder shaft box and then into the exhaust box. Come off plane and it drains forward and eventually ends up in the pump box.
We will pull the batteries, AC freshwater pump and a few other odds and ends and pull the floor up to see where the water may be coming from. Only seems to come in while under way not just sitting. I’m thinking possibly the strut bolts may be leaking thru?
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
Rusty and Harold
