420/44 DB Owners Club

Hi, anyone can share list of zinks for 44 Sedan Bridge. I have changed zinks on the engines and generator takes E-1G 1'' and looking for what plate zink goes on the aft underwater. Shafts take 2'' but wondering if this one is correct or I should put 3/4''https://www.boatzincs.com/dp-612.html. Diver should go under next week and I would like to have it for him ready. Thanks
I'm using the 1/2" thick divers dream plate like you posted. If you keep your boat somewhere that eats up the zincs quickly then I'd use the 3/4" thick, otherwise I think the 1/2" is good to go.

What bottom paint do you guys use on your struts, rudders, and exhaust horns? This seems to be the only areas were I get barnacles. The marina typically uses regular bottom paint. Looking for a better option.

HI
MY SEARAY 44 SEDAN BRIDGE HAS HAD A FRESH WATER LEAK FOREVER AND I CANNOT FIND SOURCE.
WHEN IT RAINS OR I WASH BOAT I HAD WATER UNDER CATWALK BUT IN TRACING WHERE ITS COLLECTING, IT APPEARS THAT IT IS SEEPING UPWARD IN FRONT OF MY WASHER/DRYER.
I DRILLED 2 HOLES IN CATWALK . ONE IN REAR AND ONE IN FRONT OF CATWALK BEHIND SUMP AREA. IF I LET IT GO LONG ENOUGH, IT APPEARS IN BOTH HOLES, BUT IF I CHECK IT IMMEDIATELY AFTER A RAIN, IT STARTS OUT IN FRONT OF WASHING MACHINE AREA, BEHIND THE MID SUMP PUMP AREA AND SPREADS TOWARD REAR. I DRILLED A SMALL HOLE IN THAT AREA AND I CAN SEE THE WATER SEEPING UPWARD, BUT IT IS FRESH WATER, WEIRD.
I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE IS A SPACE UNDER THE RED FIBERGLASS COATING THAT I SEE IN THE HOLE AND DONT WANT TO DRILL THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE BOAT.
THIS DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF FINDING THE LEAK SOURCE BUT I NEED TO KNOW IF THERE IS WATER TRAPPED UNDER THAT AREA. I ALSO HAVE CAMERA THAT I CAN SEE 12 FEET IN ALL DIRECTIONS ON INSIDE THE HULL WITH ALL CUSHIONS, ETC REMOVED AND SEE NOTHING DRIPPING DOWN FROM INSIDE TOP. ALSO, NO UPOLSTERY STAINS OR WATER MARKS ANYWHERE.
ALL WINDSHEILD WAS RECAULKED AND ALL INSIDE MOULDINGS REMOVED TO CHECK FOR LEAKS AND NOTHING FOUND.
WHERE DID YOU FIND YOUR FRESH WATER LEAKS, WHICH MIGHT HELP ME TO LOCATE MINE.
THANKS
FRED

Still tracking a leak similar to yours. Ant update?

I have used Barnacle Barrier but do not have a statistically valid sample size. I used it and did not follow up on it as we sold the boat. Seems better to use it rather than not coating the bronze at all.

I've given up on the tool bags and started using these Dewalt stackable tool chests.

They come in several configurations - the top one has two drawers, the bottom has two drawers and the top opens for larger tools. I love it! easy to gab the whole box and move to where I'm working. I store them under the salon stairs. I also picked up a two level compartment fishing box/container for storing hardware, electrical and plumbing parts. The larger spares are in a milk crate sitting on the electrical box behind the ER ladder (held with bungie cords) - it is in my job jar to change this to a stackable container.
I just got my Tstak boxes. I will by buying several different configurations including a wheeled bottom box for packing project tools to and from the boat. I got the clear top box with removable compartments for my electrical box and a two drawer box for my basic tool box. The solid top non divided box holds my new Dewalt 20 polisher with attachments and batteries so it may stay dedicated as that. I can see buying 5 or six of these things as they are also very reasonably priced on Amazon for the quality.

Got a link? Thanks!

The TStak are Dewalt and available at big box stores and on line. They have lots of toolbox configurations.

Many options out there and this discussion opened my eyes to the possibilities. I went with boxes that have a gasket seal.

Cheers!

Buy Again (amazon.com) These are what I bought as a start. I got the drawer box tonight and really am impressed with the quality of the rail system. Probably not as sturdy as a pelican case but these won't get the abuse that would demand that kind of investment.

I like those Tomco. I am off to Home Depot to see what all the different brands have to offer.

On some larger boats with different ER configurations, I have seen stainless steel and plain painted steel "top boxes" that mechanics use. No room for one of those types but I really like the pack out type.

I saw one with some rubber seals. The tools one my 380 were starting to get a haze of surface rust on them.

Mark, I was just trying to find something yesterday in a bag in the back of the truck...what a black hole!

I have started using the smaller storage boxes for screws, drill bits and screw driver tips for mobile stuff for working on the rentals. They work well.

This is a similar idea but on a larger scale.

Cheers!
Rust is a consideration when making your choice. Engine room is a nasty corrosive environment.

I’m loving these TStak boxes. I transitioned from bags to theses two. One for electrical and one for general tools. I’ll be getting another two drawer unit for the metric stuff since my Volvos are all Metric.

I picked up my anchor chain from Defender’s yesterday.
It’s 200 ft chain with 100ft line the question I have , is anyone using a swivel between their chain and anchor ?
I understand the reason for swivel in place of a shackle but it seems like a weak link. Any thoughts?

I think it is wise to add a swivel, it helps to keep the chain 'untwisted' and righting the anchor when bringing it in. Did a lot of research at the time and we use the Mantus swivel ... compared to what it replaced, it is built like a beast and we've been very happy with it.

Speaking of anchors...I have a very pretty polished SS anchor that is 15 kg. That is 33 lbs. It seems to be kind of light for the size of the boat and windage. It seems like a 25 kg or 55 lb anchor would be the right choice for this boat.

What weight anchors are you guys using? Most of the time in cruising season the winds are light but they do come up. Plus, we like to raft up with other boats. I cannot see our 44 with a 3988 Bayliner and a 391 Meridian on this anchor...

Cheers!
