410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

WOT RPM was low. They are the factory 21x23 and we were only turning 2680 fully loaded. Reduced pitch to 22x21.5" to target 2850 WOT.

They also had a couple dings and a lightly bent trailing edge that was repaired as well as full balance.
Maybe you had a typo or I misread something. 22x23 is the stock prop for your boat not 21x23. Also, I am confused. I have a 400 with 3116 cats and it has no problem hitting 2800+. Why would the same boat with 3126 cats have an issue. That seems like a large pitch change. Please school me.

youre right, typo. 22x23.

as to why, I’m not sure. I ran it full fuel, full water, full gear, etc. clean air filters, clean bottom, and fuel filters, and did the run 3 times. Overhead and other associated service was also just done on both engines, and they report healthy by all accounts.

From others with the same boat and engines I’ve read it is pretty typical to have to take 1-1.5” out of the 23’s. These are 350HP 3126’s but shouldn’t matter compared to your 3116.

I also had a bent strut that has been corrected. If that accounted for additional rpm loss I’ll find out in the spring. If they turn up past 2850 somehow I’ll run under propped for a season and reassess next year whether I want to further tune them. I’m much more comfortable underpropped than over for sure

Since i have an issue with commitment buying a boat for a premium isn't something I've ever done. I'm still sticking to my initial goal of finding the nicest 400/410 with diesels I can find for the lowest price. Simple huh? If I had to guess it'll be somewhere in the 85-100k range. Given that price I would not be interested in spending essentially 10% of the purchase price for new canvas, etc. 110 or so for an 01/02, not sure I can justify the up charge unless there are no other options. As much as I'm not up for paying a premium I am also all about instant gratification. Not having a boat next spring isn't an option!!! Of course some unforeseen circumstances arise.

So, here's to find the one with newish canvas, updated electronics and well maintained diesels!

Those sound more like the numbers people tell the DMV, not what they actually pay for a nice boat.

Well my 2021 winter boat project has officially kicked off this week. I've ordered up an extended swim platform (from swimplatforms.com) and the Hurley H30 Plus davit. With any luck I'll have everything in my garage in January. I plan to apply EVA foam flooring and install the davit in the comfort of my garage this winter, before installing the platform in the spring.

With any luck I'll be saying goodbye to my dainty OEM platform before launch 2021. And hey, if anyone wants this sucker let me know!

I'd love to check out your platform when it shows up. I have an H3O+ on the factory long platform and I have been seriously considering the platforms.com platform. According to what they told me, it's almost 8" longer than mine. You are going to love it!

I will happily share. It’ll be 44.5” deep. Sadly, I still need the extension from Hurley for the H3O. It’ll be a bit of a push out back. My hope is that it brings my bow back up since she dropped 1/2” or so when I went to all chain rode :)

How wide is your dinghy? I have my H3O+ on the standard platform and it works great with mine, no extension needed. My only issue was I couldn't mount it exactly where I wanted left to right because of a stringer position on the factory platform and the stupid ladder locker.

I had 'em triple confirm that I needed the extension. My dinghy is 5'4" wide. I was really impressed by the support from Hurley. They create CAD models and videos showing all the different configurations for your boat/your dinghy. They have been awesome.

How wide is your dinghy, BGIII??

On my new platform I'm having my ladder built on the port half of the platform to avoid the interference you mentioned :)

4'8" and I am pretty sure the factory platform is only 36". You're 8" wider and your platform is 8.5" longer, seems like you would have 4.5" more room than me. I must be missing something. I'm not saying mine isn't tight to crank and swing, but I have done it a dozen times without issue.

Hmmm.....hmmmm...well, my package already shipped from Hurley so maybe it's moot at this point. I have a Walker Bay 325, very similar setup to what you have. There is certainly "plenty of room" with the extension, which I like, but the videos show the crank arm hitting the upper platform before the forward tube clears the platform w/o the extension. The only part I don't like about the extension, aside from the insane cost, is that it'll be offset from center. I'm just OCD enough that it'll bother me anytime the dink is not up there.

I sure wish I had run into you a month ago, @BGIII . Coulda saved me a couple boat bucks :)

Good luck with the platform swap!

By the way, I noticed the extra cleats, was that something you added to secure the dinghy?? It maybe an idea I am going to steal and add to mine!

Those cleats are quite handy but I'm afraid the prior owner of my boat installed them. I used them quite regularly with my weaver snap davits. They are in the perfect spot to hold the dinghy in the upright position while still leaving the main cleats free.

Someday I'd like to replace them with stainless cleats. I should probably do that while I'm replacing the platform, come to think of it. Once I shimmy my way behind the motors I might as well get as much done as possible...

I'm looking into adding a davit to my 2002 410da also this winter. I need to hold about 350lbs on the platform and Sea Ray has told me that it is rated for 800lbs. I've read a couple threads that talked about problems with this. I think FWebster talked about a couple of 410 expresses that had transom failures. Is the transom different on an express and a da? I read another thread that talked about an elaborate system that connected down to the stringers to avoid transom problems. Are you guys doing anything to strengthen this area? I've got an email in to Sea Ray asking about this but maybe someone has already done the homework.

Ryan - Who did you have straighten it? A prop shop?

Yup, local place called The Propeller Shop. He said it was a fully cold process and saw no indication of metal fatigue given how gentle of a bend it was.

Oh, and they checked the shaft as well. Straight as an arrow. Wonder what caused it to begin with but that will forever be speculation
