410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Has anyone ever removed the headliner in a 99 400 DA Sundancer?

Does anyone know how to access and change the horn air compressor? My factory horn barely gasps now and it's probably because the trumpets are shot, but just in case the compressor is the culprit I wanted to check that too. But I don't see where it's mounted (must be somewhere on the port side towards the bow) or how to access it.

In the 2001 410 DA, I think you have to take apart the starboard side hanging locker to find it. However, there is a piece of plastic/lexan inside the horns themseleves that sometimes gets coated in salt. It is probably worth taking the horns out and blowing on the inlets to see if the problem is there.

Are you sure they use a compressor? Most are just electric...

Yup, this was the problem with my horns. Wasn't salt, but water got in there after the plastic grate got blown apart by waves pounding it in a bad blow we got caught in. Took the plastic diaphragms out and cleaned them up and put them back together, good as new. Different boats, but the air compressor was mounted above the port side hanging locker, had to remove the TV to get to it, pita. The horns obviously were not working, so I cold hear the compressor running behind the closet wall when Karen would push the button, that's how I found it. Stick your head down into the anchor locker and see which side of the boat the plastic air line runs to the horns from. That will get you started. I laughed out loud when I read the tag on the air compressor that said "lubricate with light oil every 6 months". I put a little oil on it and reassembled the closet and TV and figured its good for another 10 years. Good luck.

Had a similar problem. Figured it was the compressor and bought a new one. But it wasn't. After some reading I learned that the reeds can get gummed up and just need to be cleaned. So I took apart the horn, wiped down the reed and put it all back together. Worked fine after that. Edit: Oops, just read Mark posted the same suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestions on where to look! I know they use compressed air because I can see the air hoses. But I'll try cleaning out the trumpets and reeds first (although reaching them is going to be a challenge too!). The problems did start not too long after the original screen was knocked off, so maybe they're just gunked up.

Mine is an air compressor. Been there, done that.

I maybe need to check mine then. I could have sworn they were electric? Maybe that's why they sound so crappy now?

I just put in a new air horn system that is loud as crap. It is a system sold by "Horn Blasters" and the total price with a train horn, compressor, air tank and all misc parts needed was $249 including shipping. I placed the new horns on the arch and put the compressor in the storage area under the cockpit sink. Now just a warning - this thing is very load so use caution when anyone is close to it ! I went this route because even when the stock horn is working it is just too weak !

Really? Mine is just how I want it. It's loud enough to be heard, but it also "ramps up" just enough that it doesn't startle anyone. My neighbor has a large yacht with a crazy air horn that makes everyone in a half-mile radius jump. I wouldn't be surprised if someday it's responsible for someone's heart attack!

That is why I put in a loud horn like the one you are describing. I want to scare the crap out of the jet skis and pontoons that seam to like to cut in front of me at very close range. On our lake there are a lot of rental boats and often the operators do not have a clue of boating regs and navigation. Also I am out on the water at night alot and wanted a loud horn for the bass boats that are out and running in the dark at 50+ mph.

I got the two trumpets out and sure enough they both had quite a bit of white gunk in them, but the real problem is that the round plastic reeds are shot. Anyone know where I can order new ones?

I gave up trying to find replacement reeds and just bought two new air horns.

Old post from CSR, not sure if it's still valid or if you horns are the same as mine..?

It took me a bit but I did figure out that the discussion is about the stock horns in the anchor locker. Mine are disconnected so I kind of forgot about them. I have dual trumpets on my arch.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Thanks all, I'll followup on these leads. Would be a shame to have to buy new trumpets for such a minor part!

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Can we get a better link? This one does not take me to repair part. I have my old ones, so I would like to repair them.
