410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

thanks Marty. I'm a gas I/O guy up to this point - how many hours on trans fluid or engine oil in diesels is safe to get a good sample reading? The boat is on fresh oil from the fall layup, not sure about the trans

If it needs a good run I can see leaving the samples until the very last step of the buying process and taking them after a hard WOT run when we do it for the CAT survey

Samples taken after sea trial. Do oil, trans, coolant on both mains, and do the genny as well.

Really there should be a history on all samples to tell you anything.

410 is one of Sea Ray's finest especially with CAT 3126s!!!!!

perfect, thanks. There are historic samples as well I was talking to the owner yesterday.

Dear Mistercomputerman can you please add us to your email list. We have a 400 sundancer. This site has been so helpful with so many things. Everyone is so nice and has been very helpful in solving problems when we can’t get answers or parts anywhere.
Thank you

Well despite having a less that optimal sewing machine and binder attachment issues, I managed to get the binding sewn on the edge. I wouldn't call this a masterpiece, but it's a pretty good prototype.

When it falls apart, I'll make another.

Now if I just had enough snaps at the boat....grrr

Looks good David. Many times the results from an attempt of an owner is better than the results of a "professional." I'm sure the next one will be even better.

Well, bad news for us on the 410 we had our eye on. The owner has apparently decided to move the boat to Florida. Not sure when that could even happen given everything that’s going on but not much we can do. My last resort will be to lob an offer over and see what happens, money talks :)

thanks for all your input

After much consternation I pulled the trigger today on a hotly debated change amoungst us cruisers - cockpit fridge vs ice maker. This is almost as contentious as Honda generators on swimplatforms. :)

I'm officially swapping out my Icerette with a fridge. After spending 18 months trying to find a cheapo AC fridge that will fit I ended up spending the money on a proper fridge. I went with an Isotherm Cruise 42. It's AC/DC but I may wait to connect the DC side. We'll see.

A couple weeks back another member here with a 380 shared a link to a Magic Chef 2.6cf fridge that looked very promising, $125. Sadly, our cabinet/walkway cavities just don't give the room needed.

If any of you guys need an Icerette I may repair mine and sell it. The Icemaker portion was replaced in 2017/2018 but the compressor developed a "slipping belt" late last year. Otherwise zero issues.

Good times. Hopefully the install is smooth and easy.

Having the cockpit fridge is nice!
You have to get creative sometimes when looking for ice for adult beverages, but there is enough room to make cubes in the cabin fridge freezer for personal use in cocktails, and if we’re having guests on board for the day we either bring a small cooler filled with ice from our home fridge ice maker, or stop and buy the bag ice if we need a larger amount.
We’re not beer or soda drinkers, so I usually stock the cockpit fridge with bottled water and a dozen or less bottled Coronas to have on hand in case a beer drinker stops by unexpectedly.
Our preferred adult beverages are gin and tonic, wine, and occasionally some bourbon to sip. If none of those are suitable to our guests, we ask them to bring what they want and we’ll usually look for them to take home any unused amounts to preserve storage space. If what they bring needs to be kept cold, we ask that they bring it in their own little cooler.

I always thought I wanted an icemaker, but the Admiral prefers the fridge.

I've considered sa lot of alternatives cockpit icemaker, tabletop..., but I have settled on keeping a 10# bag of ice in the freezer, and for bigger parties a 20# bag.

The biggest issue is if I lose power for too long...that water runs down into everything below

Our cockpit "ice maker" is not an ice maker. It's a freezer. The relay panel is labeled "ice maker" but ours does not have that functionality. And I'm pretty sure it's original.

That being said, we don't really need an ice maker, and could use more fridge space (and I'd prefer it be DC). But instead of replacing the whole unit, I just swapped out the thermostat and I now have an adjustable dial to set the temp to whatever I want. And I'm also installed an inverter to make it DC all the time. Just another option if anyone is in the same position I am.

But ice is nicer.... I replaced the U-Line ice block maker with an Isotherm clear ice maker. Oh those G&T's are so much better.[/QUOTE]

At about $2 a bag, may break even point is 1000 bags...thats a LOT of G&T's!!!!

I too replaced my cockpit ice maker with a fridge last year and love it. Please post some pictures of your new addition. Thanks
