400DB with diesels, impressions & thoughts

She's fine sitting on the bridge at the dock.....it's when you run into a wake of another boat and it 'grabs' you and tosses you around from side to side that she's 'concerned' with....A friend's wife, who had an aft cabin, put the original fear in her....maybe your admiral's can help talk her out of the fear....however....a 52 isn't really in my future....but....a 42/44DB would fit nice.....

Only the uninitiated fail to recognize Gary's bait...........the rest of us just ignore his barbs and smile at the number of times he must be checking CSR to see who bit.

Well, said, I love it

Build her a nice seat on the lower deck, get some walkie talkies for cruises, problem solved.

Dom-
Has she ever actually ridden on a DB? My wife is prone to seasickness and she has absolutley no problem on our boat [insert Gary disclaimer here about how I boat in the sissy part of the Chesapeake Bay]. We should definitely take a spin this weekend...

Tim....No..not a DB Specifically. She's been out on neighbors aft cabins and sportfisher's in the past....but those times there were like 4 or 5 couples just going out for a ride on the 'sissy' Barnegat Bay, and one time cruising from Kent Island to St. Mikes.......BUT.....in all cases, she's always sat on the aft deck or in the cockpit with the other women.

A ride out on your DB would be great, but unfortunately, we only have Sunday together this weekend but I do appreciate the offer.....Gary only ever let me up on his bridge to update the FW on his RL80.....

Maybe in your world....I prefer to cruise 'With' my wife.

Dido, just having fun and offering help.

Lots of folks in our area complain about the steps on a SB where the Mrs. has to run back/forth to the cabin for food, drinks and other goodies while under cruise. We have steps down to our cabin, not sure how 4-5 steps up really differs. However, there is more than one boater here that has switched from a SB to a cruiser for that very reason.

For the 400DB owners, do you like/dislike the dining table on the port side? The Mrs states she does not like this and feels it's wasted space and awkward. Do you use the area for eating, sitting, etc?

Yes, the dinette is a great place to sit and eat.:smt021

Seriously, because it is elevated it offers a great view and is a great place to hang out and watch the world go by.

Do you know what year theirs is? Since you had her out in the ocean (I assume), how does she handle in rough seas? What engines does your neighbors have and are they happy/satisified w/her performance?

Any 'things to consider' your neighbor or you can think of?

Thanks,

Greg, How would one get from Plymouth MA to Rock Hall without going in the ocean?

Off topic...I never got my BIH shirts?

Dunno, don't have a map in front of me and I have never made the trip. Well, I take that back, I've been from DC to NYC and we did the ocean on the 3rd leg of the trip (father-in-law charted the trip, not me). I'll assume there are no other rivers/channels/cut thrus like the ICW down here.

On the shirts, bug the Mrs (Amy) at amybrobinson@gmail.com. There is a pile at the house, I assume they are yours/others.

Mrs just IMed me, your shirts went in the mail today.

1996 400db has a couch on the port side of the salon and a bar/bar stools on the stbd. 1997-on has a couch on both port and stbd, no bar stools. The bridge on the std layout for 1996 and 1997 has center helm, port side co-captain chair, and an L shape couch. Behind the couch there is room for a couple deck chairs and a table . We use our dinette all of the time. Very comfortable for lounging, TV or eating. As for this boat being tippy on the bridge, it only gets pushed around if you are moving slowly or get caught in a swell from the side... both situations are usually avoidable.

We have had our 400db for 3 months and are really enjoying her. No major complaints other than it looks small around our neighbours (58DA, 54 DA, 56DB).

Good luck!

Is seem to remember recommendations on getting from DC to Annapolis without getting in the water, so perhaps you can do the same thing from MA to Rock Hall?

Tippy? Is that a seaworthiness term in Chapmans? I can't find a reference.

Tippy is a word... My wife sucked down a whole blender of some fruity drink she made the other night... She was very tippy... maybe that's tipsy. or easy.. Hell... I don't know.
