400 Sedan Bridge

Game, set, match. Thanks all for this - you are right - it's a drop (although a large one) in the bucket of boat expenses (and that's a big bucket!). Perhaps they'll pay for my surveyor instead. We'll see.

Demo Ride - we went out today on the Potomac for a demo ride in the 420DB- fantastic! It was blowing very hard, and we were all cozy in bridge and not too rough despite the strong chop. I think we are going to love this boat. Fuel consuption was between 25-30 gph at cruise speeds up to 25kts.

Do any of you miss windshield wipers - seems like rain and spray cut down visibility on the isenglass window. Is this much of an issue?

The Sea Ray Navigator was different - not sure about that one. A bit touchy with the touchscreen, but we were bouncing around a bit.

I am not going to miss the roar of our gas engines either. I think I'm now a bridge boat guy.

You can't use Rain-X on the isenglass, but you can wax it and achieve similar results. It's never been an issue for me, but I also don't use windshield wipers in the car....

As far as the navigator is concerned. Others may have had different experiences than me, but I found it difficult to use the touch screen in any chop/seas. You can slightly overcome that with the mouse that is usually built in next to it, but it's still not as good as the Raymarine or Furuno. Next, mine has not been the most reliable piece of gear. Not a deal breaker by any means, but if you use your nav system a lot, the navigator will likely make your list of things to replace.

There are more Sundancers by far, but I'll always be a bridge guy. Good luck.

Ed- Sounds like things are going well... I hope it works out. No need for wipers or rainex (which, as Pirate also said, is not recommended anyway). The apparent wind generated by your forward progress will easily sweep the rain off the front panel. If it's raining so hard that you can't see it is time to slow down!

And welcome to the bridge boat world. It's a great place to be!

Hi,

We just finished purchasing a 2001 400 sedan bridge it has the Cummins 6cta83m 430 hp engines. more than enough power I would say. she rides well with a heavy feel even though the Sea Ray specs say she is only 22000 Lb dry. I can't imagine that this boat is that light.
Anyway it is a good choice for a family I think the people we bought this one from had 3 small children. Our kids are grown so it's just the wife and I mostly but the kids do come some for trips.
So far I would give this boat high marks for ride, handling, comfort, storage and finish.

Matt
