40 sedan bridge forum

On my 01 there is a fiberglass tray under the cabinet above the sink. To access the tray remove the panel to the aft side of the cabinet. Same panel you should have removed to access the vent. I had a windshield leak and the water pooled in the cabinet and in that tray under the cabinet. The water would sit there and the fiberglass would stain it brown like your water. Then when I took the boat out the water would run back in the engine room (but not into the stateroom floor compartment). It took me a while to figure out the windshield was the leak source because the leak was on the starboard side and ran behind the interior trim under the windshield to the port head.

That's interesting. So it could be a leak somewhere else as well. I noticed the port porthole Windows leak a little. I will check that next. Thanks

Do you know if it's salt water or fresh water. That will tell a lot. Mine was clearly rain water (tasted it).

Check the trim under the inside of the windshield and see if any of the board the vinyl is stapled to, has turned to mush.

So, I went to the boat and tried to figure out how to convert the dinette to a berth, if needed. My observations:

- That table is really heavy. It's very cumbersome to move around and position properly. If I decide to make a sleep area here, I will cut some plywood or other wood to use instead. That table with the stone top is just too heavy to move around.
- The table fits, kinda. You can't get it to fit from the top past the seat cushions, it's too big. But if you slide it in from the side (underneath the cushions) you can get it to fit.
- The post to convert the table on the bridge to a sunpad also works as a support, kinda. It's the right size, but I didn't have enough clearance to actually fit it in the hole. THat's because the table kept on hitting the cushions when i tried to raise it to get the post into the hole.

Here's some pics. In summary, I think the best bet is to not use the table as support (too big and too heavy). I'd use a piece of plywood that as slightly narrower and I would use the small post support from the bridge sun pad. I would also add a couple more supports as well. Then of course you need some cushions. I wonder if the filler cushions from the 2nd stateroom would fit here. I didn't think to try it when I was there. Next time.

If I decide to take the next step, I'll document the procedure and take more pics. Hope this helps.

Wow! Great job! Thanks for checking this out. I can't wait to see this on our boat.

Everything you've said makes sense.

Thanks again for all the info!

It looks like we need to replace the door knob/handle assembly for our VIP stateroom on our 2001 400 Sedan. Its the gold, lever handle type. sorry I'm not at the boat to post a picture. Any suggestions on where to source this?

Flounder Pounder is always a good place to start. Also Great Lakes Skipper.

Good luck!

I need to do work in my engine room on both sides. I need to replace my water heater, and I need to get to my holding tank filter. To get there I need to remove the exhaust hoses. Does anyone have any tricks or tips to removing them?

I had the same thing happen to me. Nothing was wrong with the handles, I only had to replace the latch assembly. As I recall, $80-90 at Flounder Pounder. If that's your case make sure you buy the correct one (don't ask how I know that). The manufacturer was Mobella.

I recall a post for dying canvas a different color. I replaced the canvas on the bridge from green to black. I still have the green canvas enclosure for the cockpit and want to dye it black.

I have two questions. 1) I replaced my SMX II controller with a new one and my HVAC fan still runs at a constant full speed. 2) My freshwater tank always reads FULL, 1/4, and EMPTY (all lights on) regardless of water level. Thoughts?

Squirrel- your freshwater tank might need to have the sensors cleaned. Sounds like they are stuck. Your SMX might be an issue with the the board. Not sure.

On mine, every light is on up to the water level. So Empty is always lit. If I am 1/4 full then 1/4 is also lit. If I am 1/2 full then Empt, 1/4 and 1/2 are lit. Same for 3/4.

Now Full seems to be lit all the time on this trip. But it is more faint than the other indicators.

Found it on Flounder Pounder! Thanks for the help. Now just to figure out if I need the one with the chrome screw plate or the brass screw plate. Can't recall which I have and can't make it down to the boat. Which one did you get? Or maybe if anyone is on their 400DB they could snap a pic for me?

If this is what you are talking about, the only brass thing is the ring under the handle. The handle and its round plate are chrome.
