40 sedan bridge forum

I have a water pressure problem. When I connect to the shore water connection and open a faucet on the boat I have the first few seconds good pressure but then the pressure drops down and after a minute or so the pressure comes slowly back. The water what comes in has good constant pressure, it must be something with the plumbing on the boat. Any input would be appreciated.

If the pressure drops on both the cold side and the hot side, it could be the water inlet. You can remove the panel on the Starboard of the 'trunk' and you can unscrew the water inlet and attach the shore water hose directly to the 'pex' connection. Test the water pressure to determine if that's the issue. If so, clean out the water inlet or replace it.

If the low pressure is only on the Hot Water side, remove the check valve on the inlet side of the hot water heater and clean it out or replace it.

Good Luck!

So how do you remove that panel? I tried on mine and there was absolutely no slack in any of the plumbing and the panel could not be moved at all. I ended up cutting a 4" in diameter hole in the panel just below the light so I could reach my hand in there and get at things. I then put a removable cap over the access hole.

Bill,

I had just enough slack to pull the panel open enough to stick my fat hand behind it (maybe 5") to disconnect the inlet and connect the shore water hose. There is not enough room to take it completely off, but just enough to get it done. My issue turned out to be the check valve on the inlet of the Hot Water Heater. Once I cleaned the check valve, our water pressure is now equal on both the HOT and COLD sides.

They moved mine too. Great guys and a very professional rig JUST for transporting boats.

Can you provide contact information and approximate cost? Thinking about moving my boat in the future and trying to get a general idea of cost over the road vs on her own hull.

hi be careful shore water have high presser ,boats plumbing not strong enough ,like in household .need presser regulator first

The contact info: Ray Marine Transportation Tel: 678 232 8106 I paid $3400 for about 80 miles (Lake Lanier GA to Lake Hartwell SC) It is not cheep but they disassembled the fly bridge and put it back together. The whole think took them about 8 hours with three guys working on it.

see pic. The 13' I think is an typo and should bemore like 16'.

I got it from the Sea Ray site using the Owners Resources selection. Its a generic 1997-2003 Motor Yacht manual.

Got it Bill, thank you
So they have a generic yacht manual and then the supplement is specific for the 400 Sedan bridge.
Got it

Today I had Cummins doing A full engine maintenance, they will be here for 3 days
Changing oil, filters, after cooler service, new sea water pump, etc
The mechanic told me today, we need to remove the port Electric sofa, so here is what I learned today
How to remove the Port Sofa
First press the bottom to fold down the sofa, if you look on the back of the sofa you will see 2 screws, remove it, then look and will see 2 more screws under the sofa, remove it, all the work is above you won't need to go under the engines , then from the front lift the panel and you will see 2 more screws, then from the back you will need to remove 2 more screws, just remove all the screws attaching the metal frame to the wood frame, the wood frame will remain fixed to the boat, you only need to remove the metal frame and disconnect the electrical wire. I am going to put some pictures

I marked with Blue tape and. Sharpie the metal frame to the Wood frame, that way will be easier to reinstall in the same position

That's how it looks after seat removed

Also right there was the amplifier, I just cleaned and vacuum everything, apparently the PO has a dog for all the hair I found.

That's a picture of the removed seat
Now is ready for Cummins to do the maintenance on the Port engine
I just took the opportunity to paint the port engine, touch up the rusted parts

That's how it looks now after painted.
That's my 2 cents contribution to this forum

Fernando, what are they doing that required the removal? I have had a "full service" done to my port engine including all these on the backside: replacing sea water pump, sea water pickup hose, adjusting idle, removing and cleaning aftercooler, replacing Walker Airsep filters. Plus valve lash adjustment, removing belt cover, replacing alternator, changing coolant, changing all filters, removing and cleaning heat exchanger. All this was done with just the normal opening of the engine hatch - so I am curious.

Cummins mechanic is doing a general services, changing oil filters, new impeller, the sea trail report said it was a oil leak on the oil sender, so he is changing that, he removed the Heat exchanger for cleaning, we removed the seat for easy access to the Port engine,
I will put some pictures, space is really tight.

Removing the seat gives the mechanic more room to work and faster
We also changed all the raw water hoses
He will finish today, then go for trial to check everything
I have no idea how you can access impeller and remove the heat exchanger without removing the seat, it just took me 10 minutes to remove all the screws

Hope sea trail goes well, I did a full overhaul maintenance to start fresh.

Hi Bill after seat removal, I found out that the folder under the seat was lose, that make difficult to open the door access to the engine, I put new screws on it and now the folding panel under the seat is tight, that's why I removed the seat, all screws were very loose
See now how it looks after installing news screws on the folder

We went for a sea trail and everything good, making WOT 2,650 rpm and 30,5 miles per hour, cummins mechanic says everything looks good now. Very happy.

Bill you have more experience with this boat, how much is the fuel consumption at cruising speed ?

About 27 gallons per hour across both engines. Your WOT rpm looks good to me. That's about what I see. Although some here have found ways to get WOT to about 2700rpm (I haven't been able to do that). Your speed at WOT looks a couple mph lower than mine. But you said you have 23 pitch props, correct? The factory put 24 pitch on mine so that would explain that difference

Ordered LED replacement bulbs from MarineBeam.com last Monday and received them on Thursday. Installed the ones in the cockpit yesterday. So far, I'm very happy with the results.

Looks impressive, Truk. Hopefully you won't need to now stock up on bug spray. I tried blues and took them out and put warm white in. They attracted lots of bugs in the area I lived at the time, and also as my eyes have aged I need as much light as possible.
