40 sedan bridge forum

New question. Anyone know how the carpeted "baseboards" in the cabin are attached? I'd love to remove them with their dirty brownness and replace or recover them with something more attractive. Same with the carpeted side panels in and near the dinette.

Mine had screws embedded in the carpet....not many per board.

I'm looking to get the salon carpet saver runner. I have them for the hallway and staterooms but it's missing the salon. Has anyone replaced theirs?

I spoke w ke a shap in carpet and they wanted the old one to make a new one. Anyone know of a company who would have the template?

Ive seen the threads someplace about mattress's for our boats. I don't believe it was in this thread so im asking here. I just got off the phone w HCM mattress for the forward stateroom bed with the hinge. I saw another 40 at my marina with it. The style he had was the least expensive and it was $1900 w the hinge. Being im normally drunk when I pass out =) I don't are as much the wife. But a comfy mattress is nice. $1900 not so much.

Who has gone where and at what price point?

KtC

I had both bedroom mattresses replaced and used http://www.comfortcustombedding.com/. If I remember, the guy's name is Don. He also made one for my old 320. Great mattresses, actually more comfortable than my one at home... I had them done 3 years ago for both bedrooms I think it was like $1800. If you only want the v-berth, was only $1000 delivered. His prices may have gone up though...he should have the templates.

I just have a department store runner on mine. Actually I tossed the whole salon carpet piece in the garbage. Hated that thing. Ugly color. Blotchy dirty. Too heavy with that thick backing. And too much work to get it out of the way to open the engine room hatches.

They were made by Boat Swains locker. The problem is the made templets for each boat so they will not make them anymore. Your best bet is to have a local company make new ones

Are you talking about the whole carpet cover or just a runner? I have the whole salon cover. It's original but never used until now. It looks cheesy but it protects the carpet. The PO used straight runners that always moved.

I only have 2 duckbills on the port head vacuum pump. They are after the pump, on the holding system side only. I was expecting valves on the inlet side, but that is plumbed direct into the vac holding tank. Is this right, or did I miss a set?

Wow. Changed the holding tank vent filter today. Got my arm stuck between the exhaust and the insulation trying to unscrew the forward connector. Then I figured out I could wedge sideways in front of the port Racor and reach up under the exhaust to get at it. Still wasn't easy. In case anyone is planning this task.

I did mine today......its not the most accessible spot on the boat, but still fairly easy. You are correct, going under the exhaust is the trick to that fwd connector.

Anybody have a westmarine part number for a replacement genny impeller? I need to pick up a spare for this weekend, and don't have an old one to size it up. I have the 8K westerbeke (diesel)

I am trying to remove the norcold fridge from the boat. Got all the screws out a the outer flange but at the top it is covered by a trim piece. Does anybody know how to remove the vinyl trim??

That's the Westerbeke part number. It cross references to Sierra 23-3307 which is available at most any marine supply store. This is the older paper gasket version. Somewhere along the line Westerbeke switched to using an o-ring.

On my boat that fridge top flange piece is hacked off so it is not in the way. Probably was removed sometime in its history for repair and thats how they got it out. The underside of the vinyl under the cabinet is kinda bruised up, so it looks like they tried getting it out first with the trim piece still on. Wouldnt surprise me that they put the fridge in first at the factory, then installed the cabinet on top of that.

I know SCUBANDERSON on here is about to replace his fridge and he and I chatted about this exact problem. You might want to PM him and you two can figure out the formula for the rest of us. :)
