40 sedan bridge forum

Has anyone built some sort of diverted or cover to go in the hatch that covers the genny? Seems like all the ones I looked at and including the one I'm buying get beat up from water leaking down on them.

Also if anyone has replaced lights w LED's and can supply a list on the bulbs that would be great. Didn't see anything in the thread

Check the seal on the scuppers that drain the water from the channel around the cockpit floor hatch, they may need to be resealed. There shouldn't be any water dripping down onto your genny.

Water leaking from cockpit light...So I was down at my new to me 2001 400 Sedan today getting ready to move it to my new slip and had a little discovery. As I stood on the aft starboard section of my cockpit area, removing my aft curtain, my overhead cockpit light on the port side started leaking water. A lot of water. Literally pouring out. This continued on for a few minutes. I poked a small screwdriver into a little scupper on the port side outside of the bridge structure about midship. It was gummed up and once cleared the water began pouring through the scupper instead of the cockpit light. Now it seems that this scupper was here for a reason and being plugged up may of caused a back up but I am a little concerned about the QUANTITY of water that was trapped up inside there and who knows for how long. Should I be concerned? Is this a common occurrence? Also, non of my overhead cockpit lights are functioning (I thought they were just burnt out but now I suspect otherwise). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as i am a little concerned. Thanks in advance.:smt009

So I learned a bunch of stuff today:

I learned that if one of the previous owners replaces the shower sump pump and doesn't reuse or plug the pump mounting screws, that the sump water slowly drains through those holes to the back of the cabin utility space for years and years.

I learned that water collecting back there for years and years gets smelly and moldy.

I learned that there is actually a sump pump all the way back there just in front of the bulkhead separating the engine room from the cabin utility space. But it still leaves enough water in there to slosh around on everything, for years and years. And that you can get access to that area by lifting up the starboard bed in the port stateroom (thank you Sea Ray designers!).

I learned there is an overflow drain hose in the shower sump that runs all the way back to that sump pump.

I learned my small shop vac and Clorox Clean-up were my best friends in dealing with this today (along with epoxy to plug the screw holes going through the bottom of the shower sump box).

That is what I learned today.

Correct, Mike.

Also, I stumbled upon the heading sensor. Who knew it would be there as well

Update on the pre launch list of things to do. After the impeller changes, the after coolers went back in, changed the h/ex zinks, cleaned and oiled the air filters, and wrapped up the engine room maintenance then it was on to replacing the broken window. Sea Ray sure put that thing in there to stay. Even though it was cracked in several places, it never leaked a drop (probably why the po never replaced it). I taped around the existing portlight and worked around it with a razor knife cutting through the adhesive/sealant until it was free. removed the remaining film and roughed up the surface, then removed the tape and scrubbed it good with solvent. then applied a thin film of epoxy on the core, then dry fit the portlight in the hole and pencil outline the beauty ring. Tape to the line, paint over the epoxy with adhesive/sealant, then apply heavy bead around the fully taped portlight, hand the whole mess to the admiral so that when she puts it in the hole, I can be inside to screw on the inner ring and snug it up. Dinghy davits are next

Good job! Mark, you must have about the last 400DB to roll off the line. Isn't 2004 the same year they started the 420DB line?

Thanks, and yes that was the changeover year. it is one of the very last 400 DB's. hull is dated June '03 (last 4 digits are F304). PO bought it at his sea ray dealers spring boat show in April '04.

I think earlier in this thread someone posted they were able to replace the amp under the motorized sofa no problem without removing the sofa. I will see if I can find it.

Has anyone put anything on the steps to the bridge? Ours are very slippery when wet.

Try DECKadence. I use it on my swim platform. But a fellow boater in my marina uses it on his stairs.

I'm curious as well. Also, how difficult was it to remove your amp? Mine is under the electric couch and it looks like you have to remove the entire couch?

I was able to replace the amp with the couch in the down (bed) position. It was a tight fit, but a lot easier than removing the couch. I was lucky that there was enough slack in the wires to manipulate the amp so that all connections were visible for installation and fine tuning.

Has anyone had to replace the padded trim at the bottom of the saloon windshield? it looks like I make have a couple of small leaks and the wood inside the trim is deteriorating to the point that it's looking crappy. I think it's just thin plywood covered by the inside trim material?
I am going to seal up the leaks and then replace the trim I was just wondering if anyone has done a replacement before?

Also I have another question I can't for the life of me find a garboard drain plug in my bilge. every winter I end up with ice buildup in my bilge because there is no drain that I can find.
Anyone solved this problem? I have 2001 400DB which was built just before they went to the 02. apparently she was one of the last 01's built. she came off the line in may of 01. so some of the things in her are like the 02 model and some are like the 01 model. so I have both the 01 and 02 parts catalogs from Sea Ray so it's a bit confusing at times to find the right parts.

Matt

400DB (at least that year) does not have a plug....You need to track down what is leaking

Also, what is the build number? Its under the number below the HIN 400DB-XXX

just curious, I have a late build as well. 592
