So today was the big day. After weeks of waiting on minor repairs, we were setting out on our tour from North Myrtle Beach to our home port in Wrightsville Beach. The steering issue was an easy fix, luckily. However, now we have a problem with the generator cutting off after a couple of minutes, load or no load. Water comes out of the side of the boat, and generator will start right back up no problem. It almost feels like someone hit the rocker switch to turn it off. Doesn't sound like fuel starvation either. I will be digging into that myself tomorrow. If it's too big for me then we will call someone to come check it out.

Oh, and surprisingly, near the end of our trip in the ICW between Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach we saw another 290DA with the same exact paint, colors, and year model (2001ish). Mirror image. Hopefully you browse these forums, because we waved at you guys!

Anyway, here are the pics from our 4.5 hour trip. Enjoy!

Note to self and others. Do NOT go through the ICW/Shallotte Inlet entrance. You will run aground. Followed the markers and bouys with precision and ran aground 4 times today trying to get past this stretch of water. After 20 minutes we finally got free after nearly calling the Coast Guard, who were putting out bouys nearby.

Those were great pictures! Thanks for posting...

Great trip..
I like the blue strip on your hull....I might steal that next time I'm striping my boat
:)

Nice shots. The genny problem may be air trapped within the closed cooling system (at least if your Genny is a Kohler 5E). Your symptom matches that problem. There used to be a thread here with pictures but they are no longer present. There is a process to bleed the air out of the system. I can send you the manual or someone may be able to explain. Pictures are nice because the plug is not easily identifiable as I recall. Also could be the choke needs to be adjusted-Especially if it was not run much.

Great pics, thanks for sharing!

In addition to what Jason suggests for your generator: There are a couple of things that will shut them down as you describe... cooling pressure, and oil pressure. I would check the impeller right off assuming oil level is OK. Even though your pumping water, it may not be enough.

I agree....change the impeller and you should be good to go. Mine would do the run for awhile thing and shut off for no reason and I found the impeller was missing a blade when I checked it out....

Happy boating!

We're at Scotts Hill Marina. We're in a slip just off the waterway so if you pass the marina you will see us. Are you at Harbor Village?

Also, the impellor was changed this past week. I'll check it again and see, along with the other things you guys suggested.

the pictures look great. awesome boat.
your cabin is different than mine. my galley is on the Port side and I have a bench that pulls out to a berth where your galley is.

I don't have a generator either which is probably why our boat performs so well. it's missing all that weight.

Pilot2fly, we are in Harbour Village Marina. We are in the corner by the boat ramp, stop by for a cold one or two. Harbour Village is a great place if you are interested in moving.

Boat looks awesome, congrats! Thanks for the pictures too, they look great and make me sorta home sick. I grew up in Eastern NC. Family is still in Morehead City. Brother lived on Topsail Island for a number of years as well.

That's a nice looking boat, I agree I may have to add the strip. I love all the pictures from your trip. They make me want to get out and burn some fuel. Thank you for sharing

Thanks for sharing your trip. So ready to start boating this season

So just wanted to update you guys. Found that the coolant was extremely low. Refilled it, and generator ran fine for an hour today, so I turned it off. Still having a Kohler guy come this week to check everything out, because that could have been a coincidence.

Also added a lot of stuff to the boat the past 2 days. Will post pictures tomorrow.
