So, I finally tested the freshly prop-scanned prop. I was not expecting shocking improvement in performance and in fact there were not.

Top speed was more or less the same at 28+ knots and cruise speed @2500rpm increased some .5 kts and it’s now 25.5 kts.

Results with ¾ fuel, ¾ water and 4 people aboard. Fuel consumption is somewhat lower but I will have to check this considering total usage between refills. The feeling I get from the boat is that she is running more effortlessly with less stress on the engines.

What really impressed me is the smoothness of the props. No vibrations at all, not at 1000rpm, not getting out of the hole, not at full speed. It is now like riding on a Rolls Royce!!! My 22 year old boat runs really better than a new one, more so as the noise level is lower.

A happy owner. An old floating lady can be so rewarding when you treat her with all the newest technology!

You have me looking into getting ours done now.
We had propeller scanning and tweaking done all the time with the offshore racing to get the most out of them.
I never thought much about our pleasure craft propellers unless we hit something in the water.
No big performance change expected either, just having matched engine load and possibly smooth things out so
as we would say in America, "it's like riding in a Lincoln" or "Cadillac" for those GM guys. :smt001

Thanks for the post

By the way - nice documentation on your restoration.

I actually thought of saying Cadillac or Lincon... but I'm European, you know

Glad your prop scan work out well.
Just a thought, while the boat was out was the bottom done as well?
Thinking a brand new bottom will also help the smooth feeling your getting with the new props.
Or did you pull the prop in the water?

The bottom was done, yes. The freshly done bottom may help, right, but I know my boat very well and I can tell you the difference was awesome!

Great,
I look forward to doing mine this year.

Couldn't agree more Pietro! Just something about these classics that you have to love! Happy boating my friend!

Pietro,

My prop scan results were different. However my props and tabs were so far out of whack beating the props with a stick would have been an improvement. The smoothness was unbelievable. Everybody who rides or drives Saint Max comments on this. Fuel consumption is WAY down as well but that may be due to extended tabs as well.

Here's a history and biology lesson for you....

Slightly west of you in the 1600's was a physicist named Newton. He had 3 laws. The third one was:

Lex III: Actioni contrariam semper et æqualem esse reactionem: sive corporum duorum actiones in se mutuo semper esse æquales et in partes contrarias dirigi.

Now that Moonchild runs so smooth, will the lack of vibration have a negative effect on the smiles on the attractive Italian ladies that always seem to show up in your pix just to piss the rest of us off?:smt089:huh:
