370 DA Port Hole Screens

At first I went to Lowes an found fiberglass screen and also a roll of cord(the smallest dia)to tuck the screen in. It works great, until I saw my friends windows with the groove in the gasket and the detachable screens. I found the replacement kit and installed them.

I also need to do this repair. I was shopping Home Dep. today and all they had for screen material was plastic or aluminum. I was hoping for stainless steel. I will keep lookin.

It's very easy. Open the window then gently pry the old one out with a flat blade. I used an old flat head screw driver that was a little smoothed out on the edges. I did mine in August but, don't do it with the bezel in direct sunlight. If it gets hot the adhesive sticks to the bezel and requires acetone & elbow grease to remove. Otherwise the adhesive came off with the gasket. Then clean the surface, peel & stick the new one in! It's really than easy.
Good Luck!

Thanks Todd for getting back to me. My problem is I am not sure how to re install that big black gasket that seals the window. Can you please shed some light on on to do that re install?

Thanks
Connie

it is easy if you follow those steps:

use Gasket Adhesive not silicone - silicone takes too long to cure and doesn't really stick to stainless steel frame

put few drops of Gasket Adhesive on frame and loosely attach screen to it, let it dry for minute or two

now put some more Gasket Adhesive on frame (thru screen material) and press new gasket (try to install gasket seam on top of porthole frame)

close porthole and you are done - it should take about 5 mins to install new screen and gasket
removing old one can be pita
Hi Boatmailster,

I believe I have the same new gaskets because there is a seam in it. The ones I have are round so I am assuming they will shape to the oval with no problem. They also have groves in them. One side has 1 grove and the other side has mulit. small ones. My question is, how hard is it to re install that big rubber gasket and also which way do the groves go.

Hope you can help me.

Thanks

Connie

Connie,

No problem on the re-install. The big single groove goes on the inside opening. This is what the plastic framed screen will sit in. When I received mine it was on the outside though (strange) so I just twisted it to be on the inside. Then I pulled the tape off a little at a time and started with the manufacturing seam in the top middle of the port hole. Once I got that area started I pulled a little of the tape off at a time and pushed the adhesive exposed area of the gasket to the bezel. I'm really making it sound harder than it is. It is pretty straight forward.
I will say though, the port hole will be a little hard to close the first few times until the rubber seal compresses a little bit. Good luck and let me know if I can be of further help.

Thanks Todd, Do you know were I can purchase framed screens? So I am not sure if there is a frame inside the old gasket. When I purchased these (6 years ago) they only set me regular screens no frame and there is no adhesive on the big gaskets.

Connie,

That is interesting. I purchased mine about 2 years ago from Bomar/ Pompanette:

I purchased some sort of Retrofit kit for the new style configuration which consists of the gasket with the new, removable, screens. I believe that I paid about $23 a window.
It sounds to me like you may have the old style. My gaskets also had one of the flat surfaces that had what appears to be a double sided tape adhesive to hold it in the bezel.
I'm not sure what you have to do with yours, maybe a little silicone to hold them in? I'd give Pompanette/Bomar a call. Good luck!

I just finished replacing the rubber seals and screens on my boat. I bought replacement kits from a company call " Bomar". It cost me $23.00/kit. I have a 97' 370DA Searay which all the screens where torn out when I bought it. I took out the old rubber gasket and replaced it with one that had a groove all around the inside of the gasket. Detachable screens came with the kit. Part #P100-04-RETRO.

Thanks for the info.
