360DA Issues - Chronic?

Sounds like you have answered all your questions so let me say that I purchased my 360 new and was comparing to a 340. There is no comparison since the 360 gets you all the standard type upgrades of the Sport Yacht category over the Sport Cruiser. The 360 does handle well for its size and you should be happy with the 8.1s that are Smart Craft compatible. Personally I like the seperate gauges at the dash vs the 4:1 gauges. We use the filler cushions all the time to create the u-shape cockpit seating but we do store the second cushion as others mentioned. Hope you enjoy your new ride.

Hey Andrew. Good luck in your search. As others have said I think you will be very happy with the 360. I went from a 260 to my 360 and it handles great.

All you 360DA owners, I want to ask around if you, too, have these same issues. I think they are fundamental design related, but would like to hear from you.

1. Fuel gages - erratic readings and inaccurate. This one may be answered by the ultrasonic retro fits my dealer installed. So far so good, but did you have the same problem?
2. Windshield leaks - when I'm running in the rain or a lot of side spray, I get small streams of water running into my cockpit, coming from the joint between the windshield sides and the front, curved panels. I think the joint is located too far rearward relative to the "drain notch" in the fiberglass. I can send pictures if this isn't clear. The dealer doesn't know what to do.
3. Condensation, coming from the freezer in the salon, collects and actually has mildewed the drawer below the freezer. I think this is due to inadequate insulation in the freezer, coupled with not enough space between the freezer and refrigerator. Dealer installed a fan between the two units which helped but didn't eliminate the issue. Dealer doesn't know what else to do.

Overall I really like my boat, but these little items are bothering me. I have some ideas to fix items 2 and 3 but would like to compare notes.

Thanks!
Did anyone ever come up with a fix for the condensation coming from the freezer. I used mine last weekend again with the same problem. I didn't spend a lot of time looking it over but it almost seemed that it may have been from the rubber gasket seal on the door. Just interested if there was anything other than wrapping the freezer up with insulation.

Hey Matt,
Our boat is new to us but of course I've seen the posts on the 360 chronic issues. We used our refridge and freezer last weekend, turned it on sat. morning and shut it down before leaving the boat sun. ( she was still on the hard, we went to CT to clean and wax ) and did not seem to have the problem. It was hot there last weekend, upper 80's so I thought I might see it. They launched it yesterday so this weekend we will be able to turn it on and leave it on. I will let you know. They are saying Connecticut might get some rain this weekend so I'll see if the "windshield leak " issue crops up.

Mark,

That would be great if you could give us an update after your trip. I leave my fridge and freezer on while at dock all season long and decided that I had enough last weekend with it leaking into the drawer below. I left the fridge on though since it hasn't been an issue. Hope you have good weather. We have had more than our fair share of rain as of late.

360DA captains - thanks again for all your input.

I finalized both the sale (and trade in of my 280), as well as financing on the 2002 360DA this afternoon.

Delivery (and pick up of the 280DA) should happen in the next few weeks.

I plan to take a day with the delivery captain prior to actual delivery to learn as much as I can about the new vessel.

Looking forward to joining the 360 club soon!

I'll be looking to add radar to go with the C80 that is currently installed - any tips on what models are compatible would be helpful...

Congrats, We'll keep an eye out for you in the west river!

We get over there often - usually dinner in the canal once a week. NT is the best place we've found yet for an easy dinner and drink.

See you soon - we should take delivery in 2 weeks or so.

Brought the boat home from Connecticut. Spent 10 days on her going from Stratford CT to Buffalo NY. Here is my observations on the "chronic issues". The fuel gauges are right on the money, both analog and smart craft. We burned almost 4 fills of gas, we left Stratford with a full tank that was purchased in July of 2007 (less what we burned off in sea trial last november and a few hours of shake down this spring). filled at Newburgh NY (180 gallons) filled at St Johnsville NY (200 gallons), filled at Baldwinsville NY (90 gallons) and filled near Brockport ny (80 gallons) Every time we filled, I could guess to within a few gallons of how much it would take based on the smartcraft readings. Also, the fuel burn was dead even. 2 of the fills the starboard tank took less than 2 gallons more and the other 2 fills the port took less than a gallon more! The windshield issue is inconclussive. The only time it rained was the night we were visiting times square and NY city. So we never ran in the rain. Sitting at the dock the windshield and canvas do not appear to leak. The freezer ran the entire trip and had a little condensation at the lower left corner of the door for the first 2 days. It never seemed to be enough to drip, just damp/wet to the touch. After we got away from the high humidity of the ocean, it was dry the rest of the way and was dry at our dock here in Buffalo up to wednesday night. One issue we did have was condensation in the storage compartments next to the water heater. When the water heater is on (which was almost the whole trip, we had shore power every night except two) the condensation would build up to the point where there was actually standing water in the port side compartment and wetness on the floor and walls of the starboard side compartment. Does anyone else experience this? Maybe this will stop once the water warms more. we were running in 50 - 60 degree water depending wheather we were in the Sound the Hudson or the canal. The boat ran flawlessly for the 585 miles. We did have an incident where we hit a log suspended just below the surface in the Mohawk River. It did'nt seem at the time to be a big deal. 3 days after getting back home I noticed some water seeping in around the starboard underwater exhaust tube. We hauled it wednesday night and it appears that the log struck the underwater exhaust "topedo" and broke the seal lose on it. When the mechanic banged on the torpedo, just the slightest amount of water would "jump out" from under the flange. Thats being fixed now. Sorry for the long post but I thought I would let you other 360 owners know what we experienced. Take care

Larry,
Those are indeed Rosskelly Olssen. I like them pretty well. All have + and -.

Plus:
Easy

Continueing...

Plus:
easy to lift dingy and motor together
Leaves room on the platform.
Easy to remove completely (except for two small brackets.

Minus:
Requires significant additional tie down while cruising
Weight is hanging pretty far off the back.

Overall....I definitely like better than Weaver system. Hurley system if I had to do it over. Not sure which one I'd end up going with.

Of the items raised, I only have an issue with the freezer. The drawer under the freezer is pretty nasty and has to be cleaned frequently to prevent mold and warping. THe freezer lasted for a long time but is crapping out on me now. I had one problem in the past but it was just the ac converter that had to be replaced.

My first issue with my 2002 360DA is that the freezer only seems to work on 12V, not on 120V power.

Any ideas?

I've encountered a new problem: my galley fridge seems to only work on 12V all of a sudden. If I have the 120V breaker on, the fridge interior light flashes (half second on, half second off), and the compressor doesn't operate. When I turn the 120V breaker off (and keep the 12V fridge breaker on), the fridge works properly.

I can't find anything in the manual that discusses this problem.

Shall I assume that the 120V power supply has gone bad? How do I replace it? Do I need to?

PS: No condensation under the freezer yet for me...

Strategy9 - I had fridge issues as well - totally opposite of your situation. 120v AC worked fine. Switch to 12v - Nothing.

Started with the power supply - Power Supply was fine (Tested inputs and outputs)

It ended up being the electronic module. Before ordering; I took the electronic module off my freezer (Exact model #) and tested on fridge.... Fridge worked just fine. So... after finally finding those modules, I ordered 2 of them.

Send me a PM if you can't find one to order -- Happy to Help.

Thanks Ryan. I'll have a look at it this weekend and let you know.

What type of overall weight is your dinghy? I like the look of the type you have the Olseen model

Would it be possible to see some more pictures of how they are mounted? Close ups?
