360DA Issues - Chronic?

Well I guess ill get some first hand information on this for u guys . My good friend just purchased a 05 360. He takes delivery march 15th. so worst case scenario I can see it first hand then. No i have not told him he will have a problem with his REFRIG... shhhh

"chronic" as in...happens frequently, common, vexing....

(I admit..I looked it up in Webster)

These issues seem to be common to all (or most) 360DAs. Trying to compare notes and find cures.

Rob - we will be very curious to see if your friend's boat exhibits the same. I'm not going to give up on this until I find a fix.

I own a 360 DA 2005 since a year now and have the same freezer problem....

Hi all - The admiral and I have a 360DA as well... Ditto for us - condensation/moisture dripping into the cabinet beneath the freezer. I attempted to take some pictures; (I'm literally on the boat now); but they are too dark & vague to see anything. We simply elect to keep those ZipLock tupperware dishes in that drawer - wiping them dry when we need to use one.

This past summer; I had to replace the control module on the back of the refrigerator - I put new wire ties ("zip ties") on the condensation drain T's. I confirmed then; that the condensation hose was not stopped up.

From what I can tell; the condensation literally drips from the bottom of the freezer - right into the drawer.

I wonder if we could wrap the freezer in a material that would provide better insulation?

Ryan,
They do sell a spray on insulation. But u have to be sure ur not trapping in the water . The water could be created somewhere else and traveling . thats why I asked for the pictures .

Rob -

Thanks for the reply. Let's see how these pics turned out - I may need to add more light.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
-Ryan

360DA owners - I'm looking at a 2002 with 8.1's. What kind of fuel burn do you experience? What kind of range does this boat have? How does it handle at the dock? Can you add a cushion to the back seats in the cockpit to make it a U-shaped seat?

I'm comparing this 360 to a 340 - any opinions? Is it a no-brainer that the 360 is a better choice (I wet-slip in fresh water).

Thanks!

Andrew I have 02 with the 8.1 I average about .70mpg at cruise of 26-28 mph and rpm of 3400..

I have gone about 130 miles on a run..

Around the dock it handles like a dream I do have a bow thruster, but use very little if at all..

360 to the 340 ya it is a no brainer..so much more room... shower wrap around everthing stays dry...Those gas thirsty 8.1 lot more room to work on..

Good luck with your search..

Thanks for the input.

Certainly the solid front berth door and shower enclosure are big plusses. It also seems that 360 owners find the boat is quicker and nimbler than one would think.

The U-shaped seating at the stern end of the cockpit is a feature with which we're enamoured; can we add a single cushion to the starboard side and create this effect?

WE just took a buddy's 36 from Stanford to Lindenhurst. We had some slop boat handled very nice. I was impressed. ( I owned an 03 34 )

So, I just got back from viewing the 2002 360DA. I love the boat. A few questions:

1. The boat has 8.1's, but no SC Vessel View display or 4-in-1 guages. Are these engines SmartCraft ready? Do I need any new wiring or adaptors to make it so? The boat also has a Raymarine c80 display. Will this display show SmartCraft data (like fuel burn)?? Is it easy to add a SC Vessel View display?

2. There doesn't seem to be a built-in vacuum on this boat. If it is there, where is it located? (The manual doesn't refer to it)

3. What radar can I retrofit to the Raymarine c80 display? (or, do I need to start with a whole new GPS/Radar head)??

A 2002 boat should have Smartcraft-enabled engines. Look for the Smartcraft logo on the flame arrestor cover. To be sure, run the engine serial numbers by a Merc repair shop.

Adding Smartcraft to a boat with the right engines is not hard, I did it on our 2002 320DA. There are a couple of things to look out for, search the site and you'll find plenty of information on this.

Raymarine displays cannot talk to the Smartcraft system.

As far as radar scanners, if you want to keep the C80 (which is a fine unit, have on on my boat), you'll want to look into the Raymarine gear. Jim at BOE can point you in the right direction I'm sure. We have a 2kw unit that works well for us.

Sorry can't help you with the vacuum...

I traded my 2001 340DA in for my 2005 360DA. In spite of the little "chronic" issues that I have posted here, I really like my 360.

At best cruise I get 0.75 MPG.

The rough water capability is not even a close contest. The 360 handles waves much much better than the 340. Look at the dead rise angle and you'll see the reason.

Regarding the seating, there is a filler cushion on my boat that makes it into a U-shape. I only use it for extra sleeping because I really prefer the more open cockpit feeling.

Regarding the vacuum system, my canister is mounted under the salon bench seat, under the forward cushion. We really like this feature.

Handling around the dock is easier than my 340 was. Not sure the reason, but possibly just because the engines are a little farther apart, and it has 4 blade props rather than 3 blade on my 340.

There was nothing wrong with my 340 other than getting high engine hours. I went to the dealer planning to trade for a new 340, but the 360 was moored next to the new 340. In the end, no contest which one we liked better.

Hope that helps!

Hey Andrew, I second all the coments made by Straykatts, although I can not really speak from too much experience as we just purchased the boat in November. We sea trialed it twice and then made the deal and hauled it. The first sea trial, L.I. Sound was like a mill pond and the second run was taken with the surveyor aboard and the sound was really sloppy. The boat handled the rough water really well. As far as the u-shaped seating goes, as Straykatts said there is a pad that goes on top of the cockpit table. Also , there is another pad that can be put in to make the sunpad up. We will use the one for the extra seating as my wife likes to sit facing aft with her feet and legs up on the added seat like a lounger. We don't plan to carry the second pad in the boat. There's no good place to put it when not in use and we rarely wanted the sun pad on our last boat. We will store it in the attic with the sunpad that goes on the forward deck. We Took the 400 mile drive to Connecticut this weekend to buff out the boat. The 85-90 degree heat was a bit much, but with several liquid refreshment breaks we made it through. She's about ready to go in the water now and we are looking forward to cruising it back to Lake Erie in a few weeks.

Thanks for all your input.

As for SC, from the Mercury Marine site, I found this: "...all MerCruiser 496 Mag and 8.1s Sterndrive and Inboard models are compatible with SmartCraft instrumentation systems."

I guess this means I could "easily" add a Northstar m84 and SC gateway to get all the SC data I'd like.

Now I just need the vessel...
